The fan on my VisionTek Ti4200 died a few weeks ago so I ordered one on those fancy passive Zalman coolers, the ZM80A-HP. Anyway, I took extreme caution in removing the old fan from the chip, cleaning it down good, and installing the passive cooler. Took me almost a hour because I was being very careful with the gpu. Anyway, got that big thing installed and when I went to boot my computer.............nothing but a loud beep and a blank screen. My Ti4200 is now dead thanks to Zalman. What can I do?

The zalman didn't kill your card. Maybe something you did while you were installing the zalman caused it. Or Maybe it was installed incorrectly and it somehow caused a problem, I don't know. But if it was installed correctly it would be virtually impossible for the zalman to kill it.

I had one of those VisionTek GF4 Ti 4200s and I was always terrified that the fan was going to go on it, too. You see, the HSF is bonded to the GPU and it would have taken major surgery to remove it without damaging the chip underneath. I think that it was during the removal of the HSF that you messed up your card. Of course I'm assuming that your card was identical to mine but most are/were...

Sorry for your loss Cursed. :(

You knocked one of your system ram chips loose. One looong beep?
If it was the video, you would get one looong beep and three short beeps.
check to see that you didnt knock something loose.

lol my last Ti4200 rma (they refunded me this time) was due to the fan on it dying and causing it to burn out one day while I went to the bathroom. Nothing like coming back to perma-standby =/

Zalmans don't kill Ti4200s, people kill Ti4200s.
When Zalmans are outlawed, only outlaws will have Zalmans.

but without Zalmans, people have no reason to kill ti4200, so lets just kill the people and let the Ti4200 live out their humble lives in peace.

Don't blame the Zalman on anything, I installed the Zalman on Saturday morning when the UPS guy dropped off thew package. I didn't wash my face, hands... just got right up touched my oily hair a bit.. got out my GF4 ti4200 and installed that baby in 10 minutes and it runs pretty cool in the HP Pavilion 8670c case. (if you were to ever see the case you'd wonder how it ever fit  ) You must be careful... and never overclock the sunnumb!tch Sorry for your loss.. but Zalman aint got to blame.. you already agreed to the their warning before installing ;)
