Just installed tonight and already seeing at least a 6 degree celsius drop on CPU temps (prescott - P4 550) over the stock cooler. Seeing an even better drop on another temp zone near northbridge.

Install wasn't that bad, except for having to remove the mobo to mount the backplate. The retaining clip and mounts looked like it would be a pain, but was surprisingly easy to install.

I would mention that they should warn you how sharp those fins on the heatsink are. Was plugging in the 4-pin motherboard PSU cable when my hand slipped and this thing cuts as well as it cools...

Definitely a recommended cooler if you don't want to go the XP-120 route.

I replaced the stock HSF on a P4-3.0E (478) and saw about 4c drop. Also does a nice job cooling the surrounding mobo componets. I liked it so much, I ordered the VF-700 for my ATI 9800 video card. They cool real good and look sharp to boot.

dev... did you apply the TIM with a rice sized "blob" in the middle and let the HS smear it?

I have this cooler and same CPU and am getting 70C underload (I covered the CPU using TIM and a credit card...)

The Zalman directions indicate that you should spread the paste out before putting the heatsink on, different from what folks seem to recommend you do. I compromised and put the blob of paste on the chip, then put the heatsink on and rotated it back and forth a few times to let the HSF do the spreading before locking it down. It seems to work pretty well, my A64 3000+ is overclocked to 2160 GHz and the max CPU temperature I have ever seen is 42 C.

I spread a thin layer of AS5 on the bottom of the zalman with a square of plastic and put a tiny blob on the processor just to fill any uneven spots I may have had on the zalman.

The Zalman VF700 AlCu came this afternoon for my ATI 9800 so I installed it. . It cools the 9800 much better than the stock cooler and is silent at 5v. Playing a game, the back of the 9800 card would get hot to the touch, now it only gets slightly warm. It also reduced my case/CPU temp by 1c so that is a nice bonus. My P4-3.0E right now is at 38c on the internet using the 7000B AlCu. These 2 HSF's make a great combo.

Using AS5 on both units.
