Zalman 7000 on MSI K8n Neo2

If you have this HSF on this mobo does it block dimms 1&2 in any way.
I mean, even if it fits, would you have to remove the cooler to get a module out?
Does anyone have pics of the Zalman 7000 on a K8N Neo2 with memory in dimm 1?

Hi

I'm using this HSF on a Neo2 and yes it does obstruct slot0. If you're using standard memory you can insert and remove DIMM without disturbing the HSF. However, larger DIMMS will not fit at all. This is because they are too tall and will foul the HS fins.

I'm not familiar with the OCZ DIMMS but the Corsair 3200XL's I have won't fit.

Cheers

Yes a zalman 7000 will stick over the nearest ram slot slightly, this won't obstruct ram w/o a heat spreader on it, but depending on the size of the spreader you may have problems with it hitting.

No worries though, if you are just running 2 dimms in dual channel mode, try slots 3&4 instead as they are supposed to work for dual channel too according to MSI's website.

You may like to look at this link, it has pictues of a zalman on the neo2:

I am thinking about getting this one for my Neo2 too. Is there any reason to get the more expensive 7000B versus the 7000 or 7000A?

Officially the normal 7000 or 7000A are not equipped to work with a s939 motherboard...like a different or missing backplate I don't know. But I have seen posts that others got the 7000A to mount on Neo2's and all ok but may take some ingenuity.

OCZ Dimms are massive, so I doubt it will fit under slot0. I know you won't be using more than 2 sticks, so don't even worry about it.

I'd get the 7000B because it's like five more bucks and it is designed to fit 939. iBuena suerte y diviértase!

I am also wondering about replacing the Northbridge fan with a passive one. The thing is pretty close to the AGP slot, and there could be problems with certain heatsinks.

I'm thinking about doing the same, more than likely use the zalman northbridge hs, but may have to cut some fins down to fit my video card heh

Anyone got better?

Nope tonka64, haven't gotten my mb in yet so its still in the package heh.

They have some pics on the zalman usa site -- I saw it and fell in love so had to buy it, man was in hell to find though! Only one online site in the USA had it available (long since sold out) when i looked....but they may have sent more to their US distributers since

I went down their list of US retailer/distributers websites until I found mine. Oh mine was at sharka online.

Yeah, I saw the pics at Zalman.com.
But I want to see pics of it mounted on a mobo.
So when you do it take pics and post em.

I considered forcing a passive heatsink onto the chipset to replace that fan but, decided against it. I just connected the chipset fan to a fan controller and turned the speed down. I can't hear the fan at all now that it's turned down.
