On googling this problem it looks like there's a lot of it going around - i.e. the non-Intel USB ports on Asus motherboard dying. I don't really feel I need more power than I have (4770K) on this system right now, at least not in terms of replacing it with the current equivalent so I'm looking at my options.I definitely need at the very least 2 more USB3 sockets (not on hubs) that I do now, and ideally the 4 I lost with the failure of the Asmedia(?) ports.
What I'm looking at now is sticking one of these into the free x16 physical slot.

It's half a mobo in terms of cost so... well, it doesn't feel like a great deal but it seems like the only way to resolve this. What does the herd say?
