I like ASRock a lot. Same features as ASUS stuff, but cheaper.
ASRock is good stuff.
Yesterday I received an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 from Newegg. So far so good.
good god.ASRock Z77 Professional looks niiiice, 12 USB ports on the IO panel with 6 being 3.0? I think I found my new board.
For these new motherboards is it worth getting memory faster than DD3-1600, e.g. DDR-2400?
Absolutely, IB is going to support it. I, personally, got a Crucial kit of 1866 RAM. Low latencies FTW 🙂Good question! I'm wondering this too but not much in real world appications I'm thinking.
Grabbed the gigabyte UD5H after doing some research and having more than good experiences with gigabyte in the past.
Are they finally UEFI? That tempered my enthusiasm for them in the last year, despite their normally being pretty solid.
Windows 8 + UEFI looks like a compelling combination for the near future.
The UD5H looks to be solid and was in my Z77 final three list.Grabbed the gigabyte UD5H after doing some research and having more than good experiences with gigabyte in the past.
They definitely went with UEFI. Here's a review on the UD3H and you can see UEFI on page 7:Are they finally UEFI? That tempered my enthusiasm for them in the last year, despite their normally being pretty solid.

I've been a Gigabyte fan since about 2006 but the mysterious boot loops from previous boards scared me off enough in the back of my head. I decided to go with ASRock this time around but I believe the UD5H will be an awesome motherboard.
Yes they are finally UEFI! I am excited now too because I can finally start recommending them more.

I ended up ordering the Samsung DDR3 ram. Apparently it is 30 nm process, and while only rated at DDR3-1600 it easily overclocks beyond DDR3-2000. That ram seems like the best option for any scenario - cheep, low power, cool, low profile, and huge overclocking headroom.
