My dad recently bought a gateway computer that came with a 5 speaker Boston Acoustics BA7800. I was wondering how these compare to the Logitech Z560s? I'm thinking about buying these and was curious as to how they would compare to the ones my dad has.

The BA support said that you should compare SPL's on speakers and said the BA7800s were 113dB... what is the Logitechs?

Thanks!

Also, would the z560s work well with my SB Live! Value or should I try to upgrade my sound card to maybe a Santa Cruz or something else?

Why on earth would you consider replacing the BA7800s? Have you listened to the Z560s or are you just caught up in some sort of hype? I've compared the Klipsch Pro-Media 4.1s, the Z560s, and the BA7800s, and I personally think the BA7800s are the best multimedia speakers available under $500.

SPL is one of the last things you should look at unless you're trying to fill a large room with sound. Speakers are a very subjective thing, you have to go listen to the competition. Have you done that? What things do I look for in speakers? I look at how large the mid-range driver is, if there is a tweeter, what the crossover freqency is, what frequencies the speakers can handle, what extra features the speakers offer, etc.

WHOA !!!

If I understand this guy correctly, there is a second PC here.

He likes what his dad has and would like to put a nice set a speaks on his SB live IN HIS SYSTEM.

Now with that said.....find your price point, and compare the z560s to other in your price range.

And I'm not sure I would replace the SB unless you were having problems with it....it will do nicely.

Just my .02

Exactly. :) I never said I wanted to replace the speakers... they aren't even mine! The speakers are my dads and I'm looking for some for myself. I don't want to spend more than $150 for some good computer speakers and I had heard good things about the z560s so I was wondering how they compared to what my dad had just bought.

The Boston Acoustics BA7800 is superb quality speakers as I have heard. But if you are in the market for a new speakers set under $150, nothing beats the Z-560s.

The BA7800s beat the Z-560 in overall performance and quality.

I would agree, but don't try to push the z560s as hard as the BA, otherwise you could fry them like many others have.

Some of the answers to your question can be found here. I have not yet seen a review of the BA7800s but several people on the forums here claim that the 7800s are very very nice.

Are there any good 5.1 speakers for around this price? Just looking for the best bang for the buck (which is $150).

Thanks!
