This game is old, it came out in 96 I believe. It runs fine in 98 and now I am trying to run it on windows 2000. I can't seem to get it to work, it starts to load then just goes back to windows. Anyone get this to work on their system? I know this is a long shot, at least post if you have ever heard of this game. Thanks.
 
Played it. Loved it. Ever play the original "Syndicate?" (Not Syndicate Wars, that sucked). 🙂

You might have to install and boot to Win9x/DOS when you want to play the game. Like Syndicate, I believe Z expects DOS mode for sound/music IRQs, etc.

Another problem with Z is the program directory path. I think it wants to be on the root of the drive; e.g., c:\Z, and you should make sure that the path(s) are reference correctly in Z's .ini file...
 
It is a very fun game. I am still playing with the config files, not much luck. I will post if I find a solution.

I've had Z and Syndicate since they came out. Guess I should play them? Z is pretty decent, eh?

I liked Z but thought it was a bit too hard, I mean really, after a while it became friggin' impossible.
 
I used to play this game a bit under the influnce of a fan of the game who accidentally was a friend of mine. Pretty cool and unique design! I think it is a DOS game if I am not mistaken. So the cleanest thing to do is dual boot or make a boot disk to boot your system directly into command line mode.

I know that it runs in 98. THere has got to be a way to get it in 2000. I want to play b/c believe it or not I still have my saved games! I am on the last level, it is really f'in tough. Maybe I will just install 98 on an old IDE drive or something.

AFAIK, Win9x/DOS allows for direct hardware access for sound and Win2k doesn't. The only way I've been able to run some old games in 2k is to disable sound, which really spoils the fun. I'm not sure if anyone has made a DOS emulator for 2k; I'll look around. If anyone knows of/finds one please post a link.
