I am looking to buy a new surround sound setup. I have got a new DVD player on the way as well as a receiver. I ended up with a Kenwood 6-channel, 100W per channel thing...I know it's not the greatest in the world but I get killer deals on them through work and am trying to spend as little as possible on this.

Basically I'm down to needing a 5.1 speaker setup. I have come across these options:

JBL 7.1 Setup

Now...I know this is 7.1 but I don't have to hook up the extra speakers. I could do a 6.1 this way for DTS-ES stuff...not really that interested but at least it's there. I'm mainly interested in trying to get a system for about $350 and this fits the price bill with a 10" sub...but nowhere around here carries them so can't listen to them (as is the problem with most things =/)

Have you (or anyone) heard these?

opton 2:

Yamaha setup

Yamaha 5.1 setup...I have heard good things about Yamaha speakers...but again nobody here has them. Looking at this because it is a killer deal at $199.95 for everything. But...6 ohms where my receiver is 8 ohms...and dunno about the quality.


Klipsch

Advantage here...I have Klipsch 5.1's on my computer...I know they will sound good to me. They are a bit more pricey and don't have a sub. I would have to buy a sub too....so at least another $100 and that goes a bit over what ideally I'd like to spend.


Dayton Sub

I was told this was a god sub...have never heard of them...have seen "some guy on a forum" say it's crap but that doesn't mean much.

Anyway...if anyone here has these products and would comment....or has a recommendation for me, please let me hear your opinions.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Klipsch setup and buying a sub.

For the price that's definitely a good subwoofer according to what yoyohowsdajello told me if I remember correctly - in terms of all the speakers though what's your budget?

You might be best off with that Klipsch setup, they'll sound a bit more clear than the other setups

I am trying to get $350 for speakers and sub total....but I know the Klipsch will sound great and would be willing to pay a bit more for them...but just curious on the sound of the other speakers and was hoping someone here would have them.

Looks interesting...however would look HORRIBLE in my living room. Does not match anything at all.

Keep in mind those pictures are taken without the grills on. I have a pair of the 150s myself, and I find them to be an excellent value and provide great sound for the price.

I am personally not a big fan of Infinity speakers. If anything I would prefer Polk over Infinity...just personal preference as they sound better to me. I have looked at some Polk speakers...but most of them are like in the $500 range.

My main reason with the Klipsch is I already know they will sound good to me, and have been impressed with their quality. I just wish that I could find a place that had these speakers so I could listen to the different brands.....so not dead set on the Klipsch just yet.

I'm a big Paradigm fan. You can get a complete package from Paradigm (Cinema series) within your price range if you look around. I would recommend specifically the Paradigm 70CT or 90CT. Insofar as what you have above I would go with the Klipsch Quintets as I have listened to them personally and I have not heard any JBL speakers or Yamaha speakers within their price range that sound as good. The Klipsch speakers use a better design with the horn setup that they use.

Not really the Dayton is the best one you're going to find at that price. If you're willing to spend more some other options are Hsu Research, Paradigm, and SVS.

Yeah for this price range I think that Dayton is probably the best one.

Yamahas are ok at best. I listened to several different Yamahas while I was subwoofer shopping (before I ended up with my Paradigm PDR-10) and while none of them were boomy and they had good tonal quality they just really didn't have that much punch to them. I say stick with the Dayton

Well that all become's subjective doesn't it?
I'd rather have a subwoofer that blends in well with my speakers than one that punches so hard that it obstructs the music I'm trying to listen to.

If you're just looking for big, powerful bass, well then go for the Dayton.

Also, all those speakers look very "near field-ish" to me. I would get the Onkyo 770 at your budget
