Back after a long hiatus, looking for some info for two-year upgrade right about now for a computer built in 2009.

I will be at 1680x1050 exclusively. CPU will be a 6-core Phenom II to use my current motherboard.

Which one, and why? I've glanced at the usual literature and there is nothing conclusive. I have been an ATI/AMD user since 9800XT (then X1950XT, then HD4870, now the new system), but I know that nVidia historically has had less buggy drivers.

My only other concern is fitting that massive card (6950) into the case. I do wish AMD would strink their board.

Yeah I am seriously considering 460 right now. I just don't know if I will move to a bigger screen within the lifespan of this video card.

How long do you normally keep a card? If its 2 years or under then I'd just get a gtx 460. If you're the type to keep a card until it dies then I'd pay the extra $25 for the 6950 2gb.

OK, in which case, the question becomes, 768MB or 1GB on the 460?

err.. where is it for $225? I've been debating a 6850/460 vs a 6950 for the long term. @225, I'd grab the 6950

not quite $225, but yeah.

The 560 is overpriced IMO, the faster 2GB 6950 can be had for the same price, the also faster 1gb 6950 can be had for less.

The 570 is just a bit more and much faster and the 6870 is a lot less and just a bit slower.

I replaced my 6850 with a GTX 560 Ti.

Sure I can't compared both but if you can find a cheap 560 Ti i'd go for it, they OC like champs!

But at that res, posters above are right, 460/6850 would be more than enough.

oh, oops... thought you meant the 2GB 6950, heh. I'll probably get the 6850. I need to stick to my $200 budget. I can't enjoy 1920x1200 gaming just yet.

though, 1GB vs 2GB... say 1920x1200(or x1080).. big difference? Especially say for Dragon Age 2 and the super texture pack
