I thought this thread was about those little picture overlays that a video can now have that has no X button and seemingly can't be closed. They are actually new pictorial annotations that can be turned off like other annotations.

Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5Eo2FGeEyg

I can see them being useful for real annotations, so I hope ABP doesn't straight block them.

Youtube needs ads for the revenue they need to stay up. It is for that reason I acknowledge and accept their presence for bombarding everyone elses viewing. It's sort of a double service to society as the impressionable need a display to tell them what to do to know what to spend their money on, thus stimulating the economy.

They're just kind of pointless for me is all, I don't allow advertising to impact my purchases.

Implying server hosting and bandwidth are free?

As for the OP, youtube/google has to pay the bills somehow.

google has become one of the most powerful companies in the world through non-invasive text ads they they innovated to perfection. now its suddenly necessary to have 30 second full screen video ads for a 3min video?

gimme a break. its greed. they want to get rich off youtube, which is stupid because all theyre doing to hosting. they dont generate content. they have the easy part. plus, half the content on youtube is copyrighted, so google is making money off content they legally arent even supposed to.

would be awesome if Youtube implemented a feature that could detect people running adblockers and cause their videos to buffer like crazy.

Ans for the "omgwtfbbqsause slow and stuttering!" I probably watch 2 hours of Youtube videos a day. And I can count on a single hand how many times I've had buffering issues ever.
