YouTube videos and making money

I understand that people can get income from their videos if they are really popular, "Partners" is it? Anyway, I was wondering what restrictions there are. For example, many of the highest views are on re-posts of other videos, ie music videos or nostalgia clips, or what have you. Do those count? And how easy is it to get into something like that and whats the reality of doing that stuff?

google partnership is pretty strict...original content only. that means it cant be music videos,or anything that you dont own the copyright to, unless the copyright owner has explicitly given you permission.
 
When your video gets 20k hits and it doesn't get caught by their content filtering system, they'll invite you to join profit sharing. If you accept the invitation, they then have to specifically approve your video to make sure no copyrighted or reproduced material is in it.

The material has to be 100% yours and it has to be decently popular before they invite you.

I'm surprised they invite you. It seems better for them to make it so you have to initiate the partnership, then less people would sign up for it.
 
I haven't heard of anything about a particular video needing 20k hits. I generally see people with partnerships having at least 2000 subs and 500000+ upload views. They list a number of requirements but there isn't any specific number listed on views. More on having original content, no previous infractions on copyright or community standing, etc. It also must be some type of art or film, or videos you produce that show an expert amount of knowledge in some area. You fill out the application yourself and YT determines if you are accepted.

I'm curious about how much they make. First I read very high amounts per month which I thought was just rumor. I recently seen where fabiocrow07770 (yes he fails) saved up and made like $2k in a year. Looking at his number of views versus someone like nutnfancy, nutn must make at least $2k a month!

What types of videos are acceptable for revenue sharing
The basic guidelines are simple: for a video to be eligible, you must have worldwide distribution rights to everything in the video, and it must abide by our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
Here are some specific examples of things that would make a video ineligible:

  • Your video contains content that you didn't create or get permission from its creator to use, such as:
    • music
    • video images
    • photographs or artwork
    • live event
    • video game footage
    • any other copyrighted content
  • Your video shows people from whom you did not get permission
  • Your video has content that would be inappropriate for children. We limit the YouTube Partnership Program to videos that can be shown to all age groups.
We take our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines seriously, and so should you. Let us help you profit from your videos rather than take them off the site by making sure they conform to these guidelines.
If your video does not conform to these guidelines, it may be removed from the site.

I just got invited for one of my videos when it hit 20k views so I assumed that is the specific level. I do have over 100k total views on my account but 65k views were on a video of my Christmas lights sync'd to a copyrighted song ( 🙂 ) so no revenue sharing on that one. Also, I was only invited for that one video that was over 20k hits and not for any others of mine. There was no mention on how much I would make and while I did accept the invitation to revenue sharing, it was mainly out of curiosity. It hasn't been long enough to see how much I could make.

Dunno how true it is, but I've heard he makes enough off Youtube to live very comfortably. Peter Chao is fucking awesome, I've always wonder exactly how much $$$ he gets from his videos though.

LOL at last spammer who said his "busyness" is now profitable.
