Youtube video problem (solved!)

New PC:

Intel Core i3-4160 CPU
H81 Chipset
4GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD 4400 graphics (integrated)
240GB SSD
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit Home Premium

All patches to date for Windows installed successfully. Drivers are installed for all devices; Intel Chipset INF, Intel Mangement Engine, RST Storage (AHCI), Intel graphics drivers. The system has no other issues, no crashes or graphics reset in Event Viewer. Everything runs great, except....

I cannot watch ANY videos on YouTube. I've tried with Internet Explorer 11 and the latest FireFox. I have latest Adobe Flash installed (for both Internet Explorer and FireFox). The latest Java is installed.

About 3 to 4 seconds into any YT video, the player goes black with the unhelpful "An error occurred, please try again later" error message in the video player window. There is a "More Info" link but that just goes to some general troubleshooting tips. It doesn't give me any indication as to what actually is the problem.

I've tried two different driver builds for the Intel HD 4400; one downloaded from Acer (the OEM) for this model and another (newer) build from Windows Update published by Intel. It happens with both MSIE and Firefox. I've went to a couple other video sites (non-YT) and there are no problems.

I solved it! Apparently, it was the fact that I did not have any audio device plugged. i.e. I didn't have any speakers plugged into the output jack. Why this would be a problem on this system and specifically with YT, I don't know. I have done it before many times on different computers? Yet on other sites, their video player worked fine.

Cliffs: plugged in speakers (even though the speakers were powered OFF) and it works!
