And the vast majority use the financial aspect as the main reason for creating content. Unless you're at a point where you're financially independent, how many people can spare the hours needed to record and edit the videos? The channel I watch the most is The Gaming Historian (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnbvPS_rXp4PC21PG2k1UVg) and he quit his decent paying job to do video full time. He's dependent on his YouTube income to pay the bills.
90% of the content produced by people doing it for the financial aspect is crap. It's what spawned all those stupid prank videos, etc.

it is possible to make some types of videos with no more than a couple hours of work

and they can make decent money if you get enough of them. economies of scale.

I'd like to know how much goes to the video creators/providers. I'd pay $10 a month if they disclosed how much went to google, and it wasn't 90%+. I'd like to see a credit, where google gets ~$2-$3, and the rest is distributed through a [Tip] button to channels you especially like. Remaining balance at the end of each month gets distributed to untipped channels watched.

Glad to know I am not the only one who recognizes quality content from YT channels. It is kind of sad how much these folks are bent over a barrel and have to find other means to fund high quality content to get pennies on the dollar from Youtube.

I can't understand how much money could possibly be going to youtube in this situation. Considering you get google music as well and the price of all of this is equivalent to spotify.

The ability to save videos? I use a program on my PC that allows me to download YouTube videos for free. On my Note5 I use an app called Tube Mate. All free.

Ads? They don't bother me. I'm patient, and most allow you to skip in 5 seconds.

$10 a month is just more money wasted. Especially when you add in all the other little monthly subscriptions. It gets expensive. Screw giving these hungry companies more of my money.

Google Music is very good, but again it still gets expensive. I don't listen to hours of music to justify spending $10 a month. If I'm in the gym and I want to listen to music I like using the free versions of Samsung Milk, Google Music or iHeart.

Why's that sad? If a portion is going to the content providers, I'll happily pay $10 per month, because I'm not an entitled leach. Especially if it makes it a lot easier to download youtube videos and I'm not constantly battling updates to grab the content for later offline use.

Other people put up the content for other people to leach.
I don't have a problem if they have original content, but, if it is the same content they always had, with the same restrictions, then it is just another way to charge for something that was free before.
Anyone know if they will share more profit with the authors of the vids, or is it all going to google?

Hmm, found this:
Apparently, any YouTube content creators that refuse to sign Google's new revenue sharing deal for YouTube Red will have their videos hidden from public view on both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. Google also announced a new YouTube Music app, which will be launching soon and promises to give users a "personalized journey" through all the music available on YouTube (think Pandora, but for YouTube music videos).
So, share or die?

Google Play is $9.99, so this is basically $0.01 :p

Wait. So do I get YouTube red if I'm already a google music subscriber?

Found my answer.

The final benefit is that you get a free monthly Google Play Music subscription (normally $10) included with YouTube Red. The inverse is true too; if you already subscribe to Google Play Music, you also get access to Red automatically for free. You will not have to pay for both services separately.

Awesome actually. I've always wanted to download some music festival sets to watch while I'm running at the gym. This is perfect.

Adblock red.

Hey, that's not a bad idea. If "YouTube Red" blocked all Google Alphabet ads, everywhere, while still paying for the ad views, that would be worth something. If it worked for all ads, everywhere that way, I'd sign up now.

Been using it today. Works great. I always thought that YouTube not playing with the screen off was a technical limitation. I guess they just wanted to charge you. Whatever, at least it's included in what I already pay for.

I'm happy :D
