Youtube loading fast while imbedded but not when viewed directly through Youtube.com

When watching videos directly through Youtube.com even on 480p the video loads slow or doesn't load at all and just hangs. I have to constantly reload and so on. But embedded Youtube videos on news websites, tech websites and everywhere else they load so fast and in HD

What's going on? Is my ISP (cox) purposely throttling the site directly for me or is there something else going on? It's quite frustrating. I have 20mb download speed and 5mb up.

There are a couple threads about cox and time warner doing this with youtube. Exactly what they are doing to cause this is debatable though.

I wonder if the news sites you are talking about put the videos on their sites to work around the problem.

for the past few months YouTube has ben ridiculously unstable for me, some days I don't have any problems and sometimes it's practically impossible to finish watchng a 3 minute music video because it won't stop buffering every 5 seconds. I noticed that in Safari it seems to be a bit better than in Firefox for me (I'm on OS X) but I don't know the relevance of that..
