But not by who you'd expect.

Well, he has a legitimate gripe.

Except they didn't sue until AFTER Youtube cashed out $1.6Bill I'm sure it's a mere coincidence.

That whole thing has increased popularity of Youtube.

What you should be asking for is records of when that huge surge in traffic started.

lol how is google or youtube.com responsible for people not hitting their website? How is it THEIR responsiblity to make sure that people type the correct url?

what I don't get is... how the hell can going from 1500 views per month to 2 million not be benificial to business, no matter what you're selling?

Talk about not taking advantage of an opportunity. If I ran that place, I'd just change my website to universaltube.com or something similar and just put up a page of google ads and stuff. No one smart would be complaining about 2 million free hits a month.

sure its great having more people look at the site. now the big question out of those 2 million how many are looking for what utube is selling? i doubt very many.

so thats 2 million hits that are wasting bandwith.

i don't blame them for sueing.

Meh stupid lawsuit IMO. Does this mean if you buy a domain no one else should be able to buy a similar domain?

I don't know what that would cost in bandwidth. But you'd think out of 2 million hits, at least some of them could be interested in what they are selling.

Yeah, most businesses would pay for that kind of exposure.

33. The 70,000 confused <utube.com> internet website visitors are not the kinds of
visitors that Plaintiff wants at its website. Furthermore, these unwanted visitors often fill out Plaintiff?s sales request form at <utube.com> seeking more information in a vulgar and belligerent manner.

34. Exhibit 1 is a message left by one visitor who asks ?WHERE THE FvCK ARE ALL
THE VIDEOS??? 1.5 BILLION FOR THIS PIECE OE SH!T WEBSITE? GOOGLE GOT
TAKEN!?

Man, if they thought they were going to get "vulgar and belligerent" commentary before, just wait until this article gets more coverage.

It looks like utube.com put up some advertising on the site in order to profit off of all of the misdirected traffic... What I don't understand, though, is why they don't have a "WE are NOT YouTube. If you're looking for videos of people making asses of themselves, click HERE" type of link on the front page.

Will this be the silly outcome?
Utube sues Youtube. Youtube changes site to <insert new site name here>

Utube changes it's name to Youtube.com and tries to steal traffic.

36. Exhibit 3 is from an individual who claims his email address is fvckyou@utube.com.
He wonders ?where r da videos? Youtube roxman, but what happened to videos??. While
Youtube provides content of interest to these individuals, uTube does not.

They have a legit problem, however, the appropriate course of action probably would have been to piss off at google and get free hosting, as well as a content filter of some type to get rid of the eBS user complaints and thn be happy they have a massive increase in potential customers.

My buddy asked his wife to pull up some soccer video on youtube last night. And sure enough I look over at the laptop and see the utube.com page up and a confused look on her face.
