I'm currently at the ripe age of 22. It seems that everyone here is older than I am, I presume ranging from early 30s to who knows, but after reading amdhunter's post about his health, it made me realize that I've learned a great deal about just about everything and that my life has been documented here on the forums. It's weird knowing that as I age and become more "wise" (I hope), everyone else here is getting older as well. I dread the day I see obituaries posted here of long life forum members, those that have helped me learn and grow.

Thanks to all you forum oldheads for everything, although I've never met any of y'all I want y'all to know that I've appreciated the years of entertainment, wealth of knowledge, and being a public forum where I can occasionally dumb my random thoughts.

I remember when I was in high school when I first joined, wanting to build my first PC and asking for free computer parts. Several members sent me random parts, ranging from DDR2 RAM to a BFG Tech GPU (9800gt or something along those lines) and even a CPU.

I don't know where I'm going with this but I just felt the urge to post this.

tl:dr, thank you old forum basement dwelling trolls for being great

Don't worry, it all starts to accelerate soon, for me it was around 27. Feels like I went to sleep one night and woke up half a decade later.

You'll be old as shit sooner than you realize.

I too first sought this place for technical info in 1999(?). I was about 38, and although I had my hands in a lot of customers' PC's on the job, I wanted to learn more. And I certainly did. I'm 56 now and firmly in a second childhood in which I'm having a total blast.

Age is a state of mind.

I got married when I was 21. Almost 15 years later now and it feels like nothing's changed. Well, I'm fatter now, but that's beside the point :D

I think once you either hit a certain mental maturity level, or maybe once you have to "become" an adult, time kind of pauses at that point in your brain. If you told me that I got out of high school last year, that's exactly what it feels like. I'm older physically, but mentally I've kind of gone from hey, I get to go to elementary school, then middle school, then high school, and then whoa I'm on my own & have to pay my own way and survive on my own, it's switched from leveling-up in school to just "now". Everything is just "now". New day, same mentality though.

I've been here since 1998. It has been a long time. Seen a lot of posters come and go.

Hopefully, I helped a few and maybe entertained a bunch more.

either way it's time for bed. :)

Yes...

Age is a state of mind. Think about getting stronger and better as you age. Also, don't be attached to anything. Learn to live a detached life which I've learned when I first lived in Thailand. Why? Because everything around you will change and die. That means your family, friends, coworkers, and ATOT. EVERYTHING. Yea, I know people have a hard time thinking about it, but IMO its good to be aware so you don't kid yourself that this is forever. You can start living life without fear of change like so many of us are conditioned.

I find after 20 time started to by by WAY too fast. I don't even know what happened to my 20's. It's like if I turned 20 one day, and then the next day I was 30. I'm turning 32 next month. wtf man! Wish I could slow down time.

Don't worry, man.

By the time you get "old" medicine will have advanced to the point that 70 will be like 50 is now. You'll routinely run into people over 100 who function decently.

You have plenty time. Don't obsess.

My mid 20s to early 30s went by super fast, partly due to being drunk most of the time. But yeah time definitely goes faster the older you get. I'm a single 35 year old guy... FML

I joined this forum when I was 18 or 19 in college on 2000/2001. I still remember browsing here on my campus library as a freshman.

Back then this place was wildly popular. If you refreshed in 30 seconds, you would have all new threads on the first page. That's how popular it was. It was mainstream before FB and reddit took them away.

Holy hell I was dumb back then. You are far more mature than me at your age. I neffed with reckless abandon and was banned numerous times.

We are all wiser and calmer now. But everyone was young back then with raging hormones. Members flamed hard and maliciously attacked each other. The threads were more fun. You even had bunch of girls posting pics. We had IRL meetups...in Toronto, NY, and CA and so on. It was night and day.

Even back then this forum gave me good resume advice and salary negotiation etc. This place legit made me more money.

Stick around. But dont be a forum dweller. Go out and live life.

I've been giving away my partner's [RIP] stuff. He had an iPod from I don't know when. It's very thick, and it hasn't been charged in at least 8 years. I don't know how many songs it holds, but it's yours if you want it.

you're a lovely person, sorry for your loss. thank you for the offer but save it for someone who could really use it

I'm not much of a forum dweller anymore, that was mostly high school.

Money makes the world go round, you want to go travel? you need $$$. I would love to have traveled more in college but I'm too cheap and have not having zeroes in my bank account. Do I regret not spending more time traveling with the money I made working? Abso fucking lutely.

I was talking about being more social. Go out and talk to real people, make friends, grab drinks, make memories, etc.
