If you aren't washing your hands fairly frequently when using things in public then you are likely to get a lot of things.

I'm not saying you have to be a germophobe, but at my school when I pass a bathroom (as long as I'm not late for class) I tend to stop and wash my hands. Partially because I like having clean hands, but mostly because I know there are people that are just downright disgusting.

Oh I know, I just find the study amusing. Granted there's more bacteria on you KB/MS than a toilet seat, but they don't bother to mention that the bacteria on the toilet seat (potentially) is a hell of a lot more dangerous than the stuff on the keyboard.

How so? Most of the dangersous human spread bacteria are respitory - they are spread when you breath. You spen a LOT more time breathing on your keyboard than around your toilet. Granted, I would lick my keyboard before my toilet.

I'm the only one who uses my keyboard. The toilet, even just my house toilet, is used by family, friends, and guests. Or in a public place, I can only imagine the filth that uses them. bleh!

People also spend a lot more time in the bathroom that are sick rather than breathing on my keyboard. Just because they don't directly breathe onto the toilet seat (though maybe there are people that do...), they cough everywhere and are touching everything.
