Okay so not the top 10, not the top 5 but the top THREE favorite games of all time. It can be any game as long as it is on a COMPUTER (no consoles). Since a lot of games are ported from one operating system to another, the game can be for any OS as long as it is a computer.

For me, my favorite three are

Unreal Tournament
Starcraft
Red Alert

Those are the three I spent the most time playing. I'm not a big gamer, and I haven't yet gotten into any of the newer games, which I might do once I finish upgrading my system.

So what are your favorite three? I hear a lot about Crysis and Mass Effect, but I don't really know anything about them. What are yours and WHY!

Starcraft
Counter Strike

Those are probably just in a league of their own for me. No use in going to #3, though I don't play CS at all anymore, I played countless upon countless hours of it once upon a time.

This is really hard but:

Dune II (I put way too many hours into this)
Jedi Knight & Mysteries Of The Sith (another I put way too many hours into :))
Starcraft (need I say anything about this one?)

1) Unreal Tournament ('99)
2) Tie Fighter
3) Lords of the Realm II

There's a huge gap between #1 and #2 and then maybe a dozen that could all compete for #3 depending on what I had for breakfast that day.

hehehe i knew this would be tricky for some :D just after posting mine, I saw that Dune II posted here, and I COMPLETELY forgot about that game... Its been so long but I remember that game now, it was fun! Before Red Alert. Used to play Red Alert over dialup modem , dial into my cousins system ... sometimes the AI was screwy :D

For PC games, these are the ones I love and have played and replayed the most:

1. Deus Ex - so much depth and so many ways to play it. Awesome game.

2. Half-Life 2 - I felt so completely immersed in this game from the very beginning. Never before had I actually felt like I was the protagonist in a game.

3. Hitman 2 - So much fun. I've played through this game probably about 25 times and it never gets old. A lot of different ways to do things here and all of them are fun for different reasons.

X-Com - 2 words. Blaster Launcher. I'd just sit in my ship is launch tons of blaster bombs at UFO ships. So much control, so much power!
Civ II and Alpha Centauri tie for 2nd! AC 'cause I can do modem direct IP connect with my bro across the state. It was fucking awesome.
WoW - It's a love/hate relationship. I love to hang out in this game, but it's such a time waster. I finally decided to quit it after the 3rd time.

Baldurs Gate 2
Master of Orion 2
Deus Ex

Those are the top three but I have so many other faves such a list really isnt fair. Also they are the games I replay most frequently today.

Ultima Online
Castle of the Winds
Commander Keen (all of them except Dreams)

I think that probably 80% of all of my time spent playing computer games was spent playing one of those three games.

Alpha Centauri -- the best of the Civ line.

Morrowind -- the best of the Elder Scrolls line. Especially once it's modded....

City of Heroes -- because I hated MMOs prior to playing it. Still playing it.

Stalker lost out due to Clear Skies killing my appreciation for the setting. Oblivion Lost rocks though...

X-Com Apocalypse - Loved how the entire environment was destructible. and if you knew there was enemies/aliens in the room next door, you didnt have to enter, but position your guys and blow a hole in the wall.

Counter-Strike - Been playing since 1.0, dont know if i will ever stop playing.

Fallout 1/2 - Big RPG Fan, and these are by far the best RPG's ever made. Nothing will come close to the originality and humor these games had.

Morrowind - HUGE world. Lots of dialog and lore, as well as unleveled enemies.

Dwarf Fortress - the most complex game I've played, despite the underwhelming graphics

Diablo 2 - so much time put into this game, it is crazy.

F-19 Stealth Fighter - Very deep and interesting for its day. Lots of random missions and plenty of promotions and medals to try for.
Duke Nukem 3D - The best multiplayer FPS ever created. Bar none.
Battlefield 2 - Just plain fun with the addition of squads and score keeping.
