I made my first post on the climate changer forum a few days ago. I have never been convinced it will be the cause of our undoing. I'd like to see others take on what they view at the most likely cause of the end of human civilization. Maybe an over under on when it will happen.

#10 Loss of Top Soil

#9 Lack of Fresh Water

#8 Germ Warfare

#7 Conventional War

#6 Deadly Virus

#5 Super Volcanoes

#4 Over-Population

#3 Asteroid striking Earth

#2 Nuclear war between multiple countries

#1 Armageddon / Return of Jesus Christ

Technically, since I listed the return of Jesus Christ as my number one, I don't believe any of the others could end life on Earth, because, as Bob Dylan sang; They'll be no peace....and the world won't cease, until He returns. But the Bible does discuss various judgments that will be poured out on mankind in the years prior to Christ's return. Each of them take out a large percentage of the worlds population. Think of Charlton Heston as Moses in the Ten Commandments, x1000.

My neighbor is convinced it will be new strain of bird flu. A show I watched last week seemed to say that computers and the internet will destroy us.

Oh, my over-under is 19 years from now. Rather random sounding, I know. I like the idea of knowing the clock may be ticking down quickly and we need to be busy doing something positive. I guess that means that for believers, or people who study scripture, the Anti-Christ is alive and moving up in the political world. But where?

Now it's your turn.

This is fun, I think I'll just go with my #1: The Sun's Lifecycle. I doubt we will ever actually get the technology necessary to colonize another planet (especially one not in this solar system) so at some point, whether it is from inflating into a red giant, a supernova, or massive environmental changes, the sun is what will wipe out mankind.

For accuracy, I guess we're supposed to draw arrows among the selections to tie it all together and add the name of some European resort destination.

I'm not convinced that anything written in a bronze-aged manual, related by a bunch of mushroom-eating, likely illiterate desert hermits, wrg to the lifetime of the earth, should be taken with more than a grain of salt.

Now we have to remember 10,000 commandments? Can we just go back to Ba'al?

Paul was the anti-Christ. He smashed in the skull of the newborn Christianity while it was still wet behind the ears.

I met a guy who was convinced the World Health Organization is manufacturing a strain of bird flu that be released. Somehow this leads to people voluntarily allowing the WHO to give them a microchip, which is accepting the mark of the beast.

Also, he believes the number six hundred, three score and six should be written out in consecutive digits as 6002020206 and that the significance is that when the world population reaches this number, the 6,002,020,206 is the antichrist. If I recall, the world estimated population surpassed 6 billion sometime in the mid-90s, so if correct, the antichrist is among us and is about ~20 years old.

By the time the sun's luminosity increases to a level sufficient to kill everything on earth in a billion years (plus or minus) humanity will either be long gone from the solar system or will have destroyed itself.

No, I think we should all kill each other over the editing.

Seriously.

From some of you're posts I'd always assumed you were smarter than that.

I stand corrected.

Yellowstone Volcano Eruption: Report Claims That US Has Contingency Deal With Brazil, Australia

If the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts then millions of U.S. citizens could end up in Brazil, Australia, or Argentina.

That’s according to the South African news website Praag, which said that the African National Congress was offered $10 billion a year for 10 years if it would build temporary housing for Americans in case of an eruption.

The potential eruption of the supervolcano, one of the biggest in the world, has been a hot topic ever since videos of animals allegedly fleeing the area before an earthquake were posted online. Although the veracity of the claims haven’t been backed up, dozens of bloggers and others have been trying to figure out what, if anything, is going on.

One of the latest theories is that the U.S. Geological Service and its partners, which keep an eye on the caldera, are hiding data from the public.

The Praag article says that the South African government fears that placing so many Americans in South Africa could dramatically change the country.

“South Africa will not be part of the plan, because there is a risk that millions of white Americans could be sent to South Africa in an emergency situation and that this would pose a risk to black national culture identity,” Dr. Siph Matwetwe, spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs, is quoted as saying.

“We have our own challenges, even if there is enough housing and infrastructure available, it will destabilize the country and may even bring back apartheid.”

The gigantic volcano in Yellowstone has erupted three times over the last two million years, covering a huge area of surrounding land. Maps from educational institutions and government officials project that up to 17 states could be fully or partially impacted if the volcano erupted again. The far south of Canada could also get hit, as well as the far north of Mexico.

Scientists aren’t sure when it will erupt next, although many have sought to assure the public that it probably won’t for a while. In reality, the volcano could erupt at any time, though officials would in theory be able to detect an impending eruption and alert Americans to the threat.

File this tidbit under: Things that make you go Hmmm....

I also found the comments an interesting read.

And this also makes me wonder about a lot of other seemingly disconnected news items that might be related to this inevitable volcanic event if you were aware it was coming and you were trying to connect the dots right back to it.

Such as the notable rise in internet clatter from allegedly unnamed sources high in the government that some sort of national disaster might take place soon. Yet the disaster news bloggers never seem to really nail down what the cause of that natural or man made disaster might be that is supposedly looming menacingly on the horizon.

Not to mention the fact that at least one high ranking government official has also admitted as much, and without spilling the beans about any crucial details, like what that natural disaster might actually be they are preparing for.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...s-cyber-attackunprecedented-natural-disaster/

... and a natural disaster — the likes of which the nation has never seen — is also likely on its way. So prepare, and bring “a large bottle of Advil.”
Meanwhile, I also found this interesting and possibly relevant. It's a natural disaster hotspots report from the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), Columbia University.

The most obvious glaring omissions I can find in this highly detailed global hazard report is under the headings of volcanoes and earthquakes. All relevant geological data relating to the Yellowstone super volcano is noticeably missing from this hazard report under volcanic and earthquake threat assessments, except for the first earthquake assessment. Surely Columbia University would not have simply overlooked or neglected to add natural disaster hazard assessments about the Yellowstone Super Volcano unless they were advised by someone higher up the food chain to remove or not include Yellowstone data in their otherwise detailed global natural hazard assessment report.

Guessing this was supposed to be in OT?

Anyways, I only have a five, in no particular order, except for nukes. That's the first since I think it's the most likely of my choices:

1. Nukes
2. CERN/LHC
3. Virus (either one unknown now, or one that evolves from one that is known now)
4. Evolution into sterility
5. Asteroid / collision with some other space-floating object
