Your #1 doesn't comport to what the Bible says, so it's out on that alone. Whether the Bible should be considered a reliable source for anything is another issue that, IMO, eliminates your #1 even if it said what you seem to think it says.

4)Massive meteor
3)Super Volcano
2)Thermo-Nuclear War or some future equivalent
1)Sun dying

Technically, since I listed the return of Jesus Christ as my number one, I don't believe any of the others could end life on Earth, because, as Bob Dylan sang; They'll be no peace....and the world won't cease, until He returns. But the Bible does discuss various judgments that will be poured out on mankind in the years prior to Christ's return. Each of them take out a large percentage of the worlds population. Think of Charlton Heston as Moses in the Ten Commandments, x1000.

Now it's your turn.

Are you sure the God Bob was singing about included saving you?

I'm living on one of the highest areas in FL, if Yellowstone blows up I might suddenly own some of the best waterfront property in the Western Hemisphere.

Of course I might have to start digging trenches and put a Machine Gun nest or two on the roof of the house then.

Pop baby.

Just kidding a bit.

I think you are correct. Technically, God's word teaches the battle of Armageddon will be pre-empted by Christ's return. So mankind will not be totally destroyed. Plus, it teaches that there will be a 1000 year reign on earth following the removal of believers (the Rapture at the beginning of the seven year tribulation), and the removal of all unbelievers during the last seven years of the Tribulation. Only those few who become believers during the Tribulation will live through the millennium. Then all of us will face our judgment before God and enter our permanent eternity.

Pretty sure.

If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

The iron hand, it ain't no match for the iron rod
The strongest wall will crumble and fall to a mighty God
For all those who have eyes and all those who have ears
It is only he who can reduce me to tears

Don't you cry and don't you die and don't you burn
For like a thief in the night
He'll replace wrong with right
When he returns

Truth is an arrow and the gate is narrow that it passes through
He unleashed his power at an unknown hour that no one knew
How long can I listen to the lies of prejudice?
How long can I stay drunk on fear out in the wilderness?

Can I cast it aside, all this loyalty and this pride?
Will I ever learn that there'll be no peace
That the war won't cease
Until he returns?

Surrender your crown on this blood-stained ground, take off your mask
He sees your deeds, he knows your needs even before you ask
How long can you falsify and deny what is real?
How long can you hate yourself for the weakness you conceal?

Of every earthly plan that be known to man
He is unconcerned
He's got plans of his own to set up his throne
When he returns

#1 Mankind will doom Mankind.

Or is that too obvious a choice?
Doesn't even need to be for resources, we apparently love hating others. We really are not far removed from primitive animals.

Resistant bacteria because in some nations it is more important to presecribe anti-biotics for anything from the common cold to the flu (where antibiotics have no effect what so ever other than to give you the runs too) to keep stupid people happy about getting treatment than it is to stop what is already happening.

Pretty sure.
What does the bible teach about conceit?

Anyway, a work of fiction (biblical figure of jesus) can't actually return from anything, so no need to worry about rapture. Asteroids and supervolcanoes also rank pretty far down the scale.

Environmental destruction is a much greater concern, and this includes global warming. It'd be hard, if not impossible for us to actually wipe ourselves out completely this way - human beings are pretty resourceful - but we will undoubtedly cause ourselves enormous, needless damage for sure if we don't stop crapping up our own nest just to make a quick buck. This includes not just spreading deadly toxins literally EVERYWHERE in the biosphere, but also monoculturalism in farming, overfishing, deforestation; things of that sort.

Disease won't kill us off either (we've lived this long, thus no reason to believe we'd be suddenly going away all of us), but over-use of antibiotics - and the resistance it brings - will also kill a LOT of people in the not very distant future, until we get our act together and develop alternative ways to whack them pesky germs.

Religion is not going to bring about the end of the world. Anyone who believes that is just a sucker. Only WE, ourselves, can end us. Well, that, and some random freakish natural phenomenon like giant asteroid, gamma-ray burst, things of that sort, but those are so incredibly unlikely that they basically aren't worth spending time thinking about compared to the threats we ourselves are creating for ourselves.

Are you sure Bob believed in Jesus?

He did make a public profession of his faith in Jesus as his savior. Some refer to his Christian themed albums as his trilogy, even though some of those themes made it into more than three albums. He said that the ministry of Jesus was essentially just three years long and so after about three years of preaching to people about what they should believe, he backed away somewhat. He has always been a very private man. My favorite song of his is not one off his Christian albums. I really love listening to Brownsville Girl, off of Knocked Out Loaded.

Can you really read the following lyrics and not see the message of salvation he is writing about?

BOB DYLAN

Saved Lyrics

I was blinded by the devil, born and already ruined
Stone-cold dead as I stepped out of the womb
By His grace I have been touched, by His word I have been healed
By His hand I've been delivered, by His spirit I've been sealed

I've been saved by the blood of the Lamb
Saved by the blood of the Lamb, saved, saved, and I'm so glad
Yes, I'm so glad, well I'm so glad, so glad, I want to thank You, Lord
Want to thank You, Lord, want to thank You, Lord

By His truth I can be upright, by His strength I do endure
By His power I've been lifted, in His love I am secure
Oh, He bought me with a price, freed me from the pit
Full of emptiness and wrath, and the fire that burns in it

I've been saved by the blood of the Lamb
Saved by the blood of the Lamb, saved, saved, and I'm so glad
I'm glad, so glad, so glad, so glad, thank You, Lord
I just want to thank You, Lord, thank You, Lord

Nobody to rescue me, nobody would dare
I was going down for the last time, but by His mercy I've been spared
Not by works, but by faith in Him who called
For so long I've been hindered, for so long I've been stalled

But I've saved by the blood of the Lamb
Yes I've been saved by the blood of the Lamb, saved, saved, I'm so glad
So glad, alright I'm so glad, so glad, I want to thank You, Lord
I just want to thank You, Lord, thank You, Lord, thank You, Lord
Thank You, Lord, thank You, Lord thank You, Lord

21. morbid obesity & general lack of exercise

I think the CDC began tracking obesity in 1982. They showed a map of the U.S. with just one state highlighted as having a higher rate of obesity. Then, over the next twenty years, the map changed rapidly. All states turned from white to pink, indication a certain rise in the percentage of people who are obese. Then very quickly, the pink states became red in color, indication another level of obesity. Then a few turned another color.

During this time, the CDC had to come up with new names to describe the levels of obesity in Americans. First it was just obesity. Then they began using the term morbid obesity. But people grew even larger and had higher percentages of body fat, so they coined the term, super morbid obesity. I suppose the next one will be super duper morbid obesity. After searching for actual charts, I see they already use such terms as super super morbidly obese for people with over 50% body fat. I think I'll go ride my bike and try to forget how much I ate yesterday.

Tut tut.

We don't have "God's word".

We have "human claims of "God's word".

At least Joseph Smith left us the Golden Tablets which are of true divine origin.

Oh wait, no he didn't.

Unfortunate that.

I'm not convinced that anything written in a bronze-aged manual, related by a bunch of mushroom-eating, likely illiterate desert hermits, wrg to the lifetime of the earth, should be taken with more than a grain of salt.

The last thing we need is another group of 9/11 Truther equivalents.

Atheists are nothing more than a fringe group of Bible-burning wackos. The more conspiracy theorists we have, the closer to being "doomed" we become.
