What are you top five multi-player games?

Keep in mind that I'm not necessarily asking for the best of "all time". Nah... just name the ones you prefer at the present. It can be your all time favorites, but it's not an obligation, some times our tastes change over time of course and in a year from now your list might well be different. Don't name six or seven titles please, it can be one to four though, but no more than five. They can have single-player too, they don't have to be on-line only.

I thought I'd make this thread since I think I need to find more games to play on-line. I really like the ones I play myself, but some times I feel like I might be missing on a little jewel and instead of reading some generic "professional" reviews to find out more about those unknown games to me I thought I'd ask you guys your opinions. By the way, they can be old games too, I myself don't mind much about graphics, but as long as the on-line community for that game is still active that is, even if it's just "a small band" of players.

1) Team Fortress 2
Absolutely, it's my favorite, I never played a game on-line which was that addictive to me. It's both the most frustrating game I've ever played on-line and the very best one. It's both extremes at their best. I believe that the pros far outweighs the minuses.

2) Natural Selection
That's a Half-Life modification for those of you who never heard about that one, it's old, of course, but it's my second favorite without a doubt, I don't play it much lately, but it's still a nice game to play. I can't wait for NS2 though, procedural Karhaa infestation for the w33n.

3) Battlefield 2
Well, yes, DICE does it again with that one, fun game-play, thankfully only published by EA. There's also a nice modding community for it, with such mods as Forgotten Hope 2, one can't go wrong with BF2. And I believe that BF2 is still the best game to play on-line if you want vehicular combat, no others come even close to it.

4) Unreal Tournament 2004
For me, one word: Invasion. And actually decent vehicular combat for its time, and even today.

5) Diablo II: Lord of Destruction
Do I really need to say anything.

What about you? Name the ones that you keep coming back to, that are just very good for you, that meets all your tastes for gaming. I'm hoping to discover perhaps new titles to buy and try, of course to nourish my mere curiosity.

1. Medal of Honor (AA and Spearhead), played this one consistently for 3 years..! Love the maps, mods and weapons.
2. Team Fortress 2, fun but usually I only play like 2 or 3 maps.
3. Call of Duty and UO, great maps and like MOH but with iron sights.
4. Enemy Territory, more stuff to do (like medic and engineer) than your usual point and shoot.
5. Counterstrike, was fun for awhile.

Obviously all older games. Around 2001-2003 I think was the height of PC multiplayer to me

I don't like TF2 either. I honestly tried to, I mean everyone else is raving about it but it is just too damn easy if you are already used to playing games like UT and CS. It is kind of like noob dm.

1. Red Orchestra.
2. Natural Selection.
3. Company of Heroes.
4. HL2DM

Those are the only 3 I play.
Couldn't stand TF2 on the free weekend, it just felt like endless mindless spam. While that can be enjoyable sometimes, it's not really a great foundation for a game IMO. I already got HL2DM free when I bought HL2, so I don't need another spam fest.

Try playing TF2 against people who know what they're doing.

I love how people rag on TF2 after they played the free weekend. Seems all the people who had no opinion suddenly know all the ins and outs of the game and how easy it is after playing on servers with tons of other noobs.

well I tried it for on and off for a couple of months early this year. I don't claim to be a pro at it but it just seemed too simple.

I agree. It's easy to go into random pub servers and "own" by toping the score charts. Your team can lose games repeatedly and you can still get top score by doing your own thing. Try playing against organized teams that are good, and TF2 gets a lot harder. You've gotta realize, people playing CS now are a much more "hardcore gaming" bunch than those playing TF2. The average TF2 game is going to be easier than CS, but this doesn't mean that TF2 itself is simply easier.

Tribes: Hands down the best multi player FPS game I have ever played! The jet pack adding that 3rd dimension was tight. I also liked the outdoor maps vs the constricted indoor maps of most FPS.

Team Fortress Classic for HL: 2nd best FPS for me. The original heavy was just ridiculously powerful.

World in Conflict: Love the concept, great idea, great graphics, and very fun gameplay.

Desert Combat: Combined arms MP that was a blast.

BF1942: First real introduction to combined arms.

BF2142
COD

Am I the only person here that plays BF2142?

These are the only MP games I play BTW.

These are the 5 that I enjoyed the most against friends. Once MP became anonymous I pretty much lost interest. I was best at Red Alert and Starcraft; but those weren't as fun as the games I wasn't as good at. It is much more fun playing when you have a chance to lose than when you are much better than the people you are playing.

1: Command and Conquer: Tiberium Dawn
2: Counterstrike
3: Command and Conquer: Red Alert
4: Quake
5: Doom 2

This ranking is logarithmic in terms of all time enjoyment.

1. Diablo 2
2. Wolf: ET
3. Crysis
4. Age of Mythology
5. Dofus: turn based combat like Final Fantasy Tactics makes this by far the most enjoyable MMO I've played.

Test Drive Unlimited might be in the #5 spot if multiplayer didn't only have 30 people in it at any time. I'm surprised nobody else has an MMO on their list.

1. Diablo 2: LoD. I'm with you Zenoth, it's been my crack addiction for years. My single favorite game of all time.

2. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. One of the simplest and most fun MP games I've ever played. I've probably racked up 20-30,000 kills on that game with the lightsaber only.

3. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Probably my favorite FPS game of all time.

4. Call of Duty 4: Ok, I admit, I actually own this on the 360, not the PC...but it's the same game. Very close to MoH in my opinion. Considering the flop that CoD 3 was, I wasn't expecting much out of 4 and it blew me away.

5. Toss up between Gears of War and CS:S. I'd probably give the nod to GoW but honestly I think I spent alot more time on CS:S (gogo office!!)

Honorable mention:
Unreal Tournament (the original, I didn't like 2k3 or 2k4 nearly as much). 64 player lan games over my old college's ethernet was fantastic.

Interstate '76: Cars with guns on 'em, great fun. All the hackers spoiled it though. First game I ever played with cursing in it too ^^
