Your top albums of 2009

Platypus

Lifer
It's closing in on that time of the year when it's time to choose your favorite albums of 2009!

It's a great way also to clue people in to bands they might not know of. If you'd like, list a few tunes off the album as well to demo for prospective listeners.

Here are a few of my votes to get things started:
Format is Artist - Album (Songs)

Andrew Bird - Noble Beast (Anonanimal, The Privateers, Masterswarm, Soverign)

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (While You Wait For The Others, Ready/Able, Fine For Now)

St. Vincent - Actor (Black Rainbow, Marrow, The Party)

Pelican - What We All Come To Need (Glimmer, The Creeper, Strung Up From The Sky)

Russian Circles - Geneva (Hexed All, Melee, Geneva)

Between The Buried And Me - The Great Misdirect (Mirrors, Disease/Injury/Madness, Fossil Genera)

Also, don't forget to vote in NPR's best of 2009

Derek Trucks Band - Already Free (Southern slide guitar bluesy rock)
Eliyahu & the Qadim Ensemble - Eastern Wind (Middle Eastern)
Darbuki Kings - Lawrence of Suburbia (Sort of Middle Eastern - East European with one song that sounds a whole bunch like The Clash)
Lhasa de Sela - Lhasa (Singer/Songwriter - the ultimate mental illness self awareness album)
Rokia Traoré - Tchamantche ( Mali )

I think I'm in the minority on the Them Crooked Vultures album.. just couldn't get into it at all. It was decent but nothing extraordinary and definitely not greater than the sum of its parts.
