I find it hard to believe that people who regularly watch films can honestly narrow it down to 5. I tried to list 5, but there was no possible way considering the amount of movies I've seen that I felt were head and shoulders above the majority of films out there. I can't narrow that group down to 5, 10, or a 100. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, their genres, time periods, length etc. Depending on a person's moods and the last movies they've seen they might pull towards cult classic films, comedies, straight-faced dramas, long epics, or whatever else.

Snatch
12 Monkeys
Pulp Fiction
The Matrix
Fight Club

If I can include Super Troopers, Equilibrium and Empire Strikes Back for the indecisiveness in me.

I only get 5?

Porky's
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Revenge of the Nerds
Animal House
Airplane

Those are my funnybone movies.

For the more serious stuff:

Casino
Hoffa
The Godfather
Heat
Goodfellas

All I can say is, anyone who puts Shawshank Redemption in their top 100 list has no taste, or has seen less than 100 movies.

On the other hand, all the movies you listed were undeniably awesome. Oh, wait..

Nice comeback. You imply that because I didn't post a list of movies, I have no taste. Use logic much?

Uh, that's sort of the point: to force you to analyze your favorite movies and pick the best of the best. That's like asking someone what they would do with a million dollars and they say "invest it". Misses the entire point of the question.

I'll just imply that you have no taste because you have no taste.

... or more than that of someone with ordinary tastes. "The Green Mile"? One of the best five movies ever, hmm? You should broaden your horizons a little.

How about you pulling that that little bean you call a head out of your ass and realize that the question was "Your top 5 movies of all time". No one is pretending to be some kind of Film Expert except you:roll:

Of course this wouldn't be ATOT without some self important wanker with no life giving his unwanted opinion on our selections.

You're off to a good start here. I think you'll fit in well.

Logic? I'm surprised you know the meaning of the word. Actually, I made no implication on your tastes whatsoever.

What I was wondering is exactly why you thought that, as a new poster with no known history - and providing no brief frame of reference for you own tastes - thought that anyone would give a flying fuck what you thought about a single popular movie in a opinion thread.

But then again, you come off as yet another douche-bag teen who woke up this morning and *almost* manged to tie his own shoes, therefore convincing yourself that you must be a fucking genius, and immediately ran to the nearest PC so you could create an online persona and proceed to demonstrate you innate ability to be a fucking wanker.

In short, welcome to ATOT! I think you'll make friends fast.

So 300,00 people at IMDB that voted it the #1 movie of all time all have no taste?

It's #2, and all 300,000 votes aren't taken into account in the ratings. It clearly says "For this top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered." I heard once that was just the top 5000 voters, but I assume that's inaccurate. Does anyone know?

EDIT: And I'm not 100% sure about my top 5, but Taxi Driver and Magnolia would probably make the cut... doesn't look like anyone's mentioned these.

You've been here two days and you already fit right in.

In chronological order (I think):

SW: The Empire Strikes Back
The Princess Bride
The Usual Suspects
Braveheart
LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
