Your thoughts on the Scottish Independence referendum

They haven't given up. They're going to try again.

Geographically, an independant Scotland seems to make a little more sense to me than an independant Quebec. I really don't know the other issues though. Does Scotland want to start using the Euro? Can't imagine that is the case with everything going on right now.

I'd say let them make their own choice however they should consider the consequences carefully lest they fall victim to "be careful of what you wish for."

I can't blame them for no longer wanting to be associated with the English. Breaking up the UK is probably for the best for the world, too.

It's the sort of thing that should be decided on by the UN and enforced by UN soldiers though. The UK has been a hotbed of human rights violations for centuries and the world has merely stood idly by. America should lead a coalition of the willing to break up the UK ASAP.

I would be in support of international observers ensuring that the severing of relations for Scotland is peaceful.

This is an odd time to be pushing for independence. When the European Union was looking stronger, I think a lot of people liked the idea of more regions having autonomy within an open market democratic framework (like the Basques, Catalonians and Northern Italians). But now Greece has reminded us that politics are local and that small entities will say FU to the EU if they feel it benefits them. In short, Europe and the world is unstable now. It's a risky time for Scotland to go it alone.

I am Scottish, and will vote against leaving the UK.

According to the article, only a quarter of Scots do support leaving the UK. Another quarter are undecided but it's hard to believe all of them would vote for independence.

This is 99% based on Soccer and William Wallace. 1% just because they can.

I hope they get independence, become a Muslim state, and attack Norway. That way the Canadians will have a good reason to use their submarines.

Their choice, but don't really see a reason "Why" without seeing some hearkening back to a time when Mel Gibson gave a rousing speech. Hardly seems to be a compelling reason to make such a choice, but it's for them to decide.

Some people dislike colonialism.

Can you guys give some recent examples of human rights violations against the Scots by the English? Just curious because I never hear about them over here in the US.

I am not sure about English human rights violations against Scotland (I never said anything about that), but obviously the UK has a very long and depraved history of human rights violations.

I favor Scotland over England as I admit that I'm biased against the Anglo Establishment and also because I favor liberty over union. I pray that Scotland doesn't get Lincolned.

I don't know a whole lot about U.K.'s system of governance, so I'm going to refrain from further comment (at least for the time being).

From the linked article:
"Two opinion polls published on Sunday showed support for Scottish independence is stronger among English voters than it is among Scots.

The polls may reflect a view in some parts of Britain that Scotland gains financially from the current UK set-up, which gives its devolved parliament power over issues like health and education, funded by a grant from British government coffers."
