your thoughts on the "Drive by wire" system?

Only if they can make tactical feedback functional enough that you can "feel" the road. Otherwise it's like trying to play an old driving game with a cheap steering wheel with no way of knowing how far your turn of the steering wheel is going to turn the tires, or if there's something stopping the tires from turning.

i'd like a 'drive by gosling' system, whereby the wheel is connected to the front wheels via an intricately knotted rope made entirely out of live goslings...but that's just me 😱

I would never want drive-by-wire steering. Lots of cars have drive-by-wire throttles though, which isn't so bad.

The electronic throttle just takes some getting used to. My Suby has it. I wasn't liking it much at first but now its quite nice. I think a big advantage is the pedal pressure is pretty constant. I know on some cars I've driven the pedal gets progressively harder the farther you push it. Course it'll suck if the throttle servo ever goes bad😛

that isn't drive by wire, that is drive by joystick. if you slip your elbow and jam the joystick it looks like you will go off the road like a nut.

It's bad enough now if your power steering goes out, what are you going to do if your joystick stops working? Seems like it's just something that's unnecessary that'll be a pain to get fixed when it breaks.

My problem is that I would pull back on the joystick and think "Why the hell isn't this thing taking off the ground???"

Kinda pointless I think...unless the things can fly. I don't see how a joystick will make parking easier...I have very good control of my car with my steering wheel. What it seems like is they are taking more control from the driver and placing that with the car and hoping it works right.
