YOUR thoughts on mulit-function printers...

This one's for the wife...she really seems hell bent on having an all-in-one printer, scanner, fax, copier. She operates a small business out of the home and thought the multi-function printer to be the best option. I have zero experience with these units but have always assumed that they just do a lot of different tasks but don't do any of them well. Anyone got some hands on experience and recommendations. She looked at a HP PSC-950 ($370) which is the most she would like to spend.

Thanks

I'm building a PC for a friend in the next weeks, and he wants a All in one too, although, I was looking at a much cheaper one. Lexmarks X73. It seems pretty popular because MWave was out of stock a couple days ago. Anyone have any experience with this All in One? Thanks!

Jack of all trades, master of none. That's is essentially my opinion.
If she just wants basic printing/scanning/fax/copier capabilities and doesnt have the moey or space to house separate units then an all in one option may be perfect for her.

I'm not familiar with the model you quoted --- but--- if its a color ink-jet, look into the cost of the cartridges you'll be burning through. I use a HP 3200 All In One for most of my needs and have a Color Printer just for when I need it. I really like the Laserjet - - mixed feelings about the Color 970.

I think they are pretty worthwhile. I have a pretty old Canon Multipass unit at home and it is nice to have the ability to send and receive faxes easily when needed. It seems like that is where all the major printer companies are going and many of them are building them with the same quality that they build their printers.
