if i had a child or even for my younger sister, id vote for honda civic
why?
because that was my first car as well. god damn what it has been thru and running great till this day still amazes me. that car is built like a rock (well i dont know how the new gen. civics are). it has been thru every scenerio you can think of (accidents, going off road accidently, racing the engine) and the only thing we had to replaced till this day (at 75k) is front bumper, and front axles.
i also have worked at honda service dept so i know how they work behind the desk. and i tell yea, honda gives customer the top priority. i am no honda lover, or bias but i have to admit that honda really cares about its customer.
when i worked there i seen some people do stupid ****** to their cars, LIED and still honored their warranty. prime example i still remember tilll this day.
a kid had a s2000, raced the engine, destroyed pistons, engine block, basically the whole engine by downshifting too early. brought it to the dealer, LIED that '****** i dunno how it happened, i was just at a stop light and it happened while starting off blah blah'. the technician read the ecu and it clearly showed he was racing the engine. yet honda america still honored his warrranty as goodwill and replaced the engine/labor cost free!
that douche destroyed the engine 2nd time! i dunno what they did to it afterwards. but thats one example.
there are so many examples i can give, but honda service dept really helps you out if you car gets in a major problem even after warranty. afterall service is the only thing you can rely on after you have purchased a car.
so i guess here is my indepth review on my first car option. =)
honda fit is not bad either, its already been out for 4+yrs in japan, so you know there will be no 1st yr problems, and its made in japan. so a very good car plus the next best thing for the upcoming generation.
and honda's 4cyl technology/transmission are far superior/advanced than what other leaders offer in the same class. just research everything upclose, visit some car forums and decide for yourself. second car i would go w/ is a toyota.
