Alright, so here's mine...
  • I wash my face twice a day (morning and night) with a gentle cleanser from Neutrogena.
  • Then, with my face still damp, I apply an oil-free lotion to my face and neck.
  • I use a Clearasil pad to help dry up oily, pimple-prone areas.
  • I spot treat zits with benzoyl peroxide when necessary.
  • I use a homemade exfoliant (add sugar to my cleanser) about once or twice a week.
  • Sometimes I get a pan of water to a rolling boil and stick my face in the steam for several minutes. This is to open up the pores and help remove dirt.

Although the habit use to be much worse (during high school), I still attempt to pop my whiteheads and blackheads on a daily basis. I use to take a safety pin and puncture the affected area. Then I would take the circular end of the pin and press around the plugged pore. Now I use nailclippers. The clipping end is great for clawing out comedos and popping whiteheads. Also, the tip of the thumb grip is great for applying pressure to pores.

So, after reading all of this, I'm sure many of you think that I'm a freak and must have horrible looking skin. That's not so. Luckily, I have never had bad acne, I just want clean, healthy-looking skin. I have never been to a dermatologist (too embarassed) but I think it would be interesting.

I guess the point of this thread was to see how you guys take care of your facial skin. And hopefully, you might have some interesting tips/tricks or some do's/don'ts .

Oh yeah, this leads me to another question.... I've tried looking for the answer on the web but was unsuccessful.

There are many skincare products on store shelves that say Dermatologist Tested, Dermatologist Approved, or Dermatologist Recommended. What does that mean?

I think Derma Tested means that it's undergone testing but didn't pass. Derma Approved means it was tested and passed. Derma Recommended means it was tested, passed, and recommended.

Can anyone confirm this?

Wash with mild soap morning and night. Apply benzoyl peroxide 2.5% in problem areas. Moisturize. A couple time a week I use Clean & Clear's Blackhead removing scrub to help clean pores out.

It means that the company paid a dermatologist to say that their product is good.

Wash with Purpose soap morning and evening before bed. St. Ives Apricot Scrub in the shower. Neutrogena 2.5% benzoyl peroxide at night, and sometimes during the day.

i dont really get zits anymore. i get one every now and then.
yes, i would pick/pop them when i got them.

i use this neutrogena stuff on my face in the shower. something my ex told me to use.
i really wouldnt go digging into your pores. i have two gigantic open pores on my nose and a big open pore on my cheek. its not good for them, unless you want gaping holes in your skin.
yeah its gross, but its the breaks.

I have horrible skin...and the problems aren't consistent, which is the worst part. It could look great for a week, and then have a breakout the week after. I'm fvcking 22. :( I have 3 main face washes, depending on the condition of my skin...one of them has an abrasive in it that helps scrub the pores twice a week. Other than that, after washing, I'm usually really dry, so then I have Anthony Logistics For Men face moisturizer.

I just smile a lot...I have great teeth, which take attention away from anything else ;)

I don't pay attention to skin care, because I don't need to, other than maintaining a high standard for personal hygiene. On the rare occasion where I get a zit, I pop it with vigorous abandon.

Same. A little soap if I've been playing sports, working out, etc.

Cleaners and scrubs and treatments just make my skin red. I figured that out years ago in junior high after going to camp and just rising my face for a week.

I'm in the same boat, inconsistent skin, also 22. I've taken to using the 2.5% cream on my face pretty much all day, at least in a thin layer. It's a vanishing cream, so no one notices it. Keeps the oil from causing problems. The only issue is that I have to wash it off after I workout in the evening, so there is a few hours each day when I don't have it on, but in general it keeps things clear.
