A. I just bought a SX6000 raid card and have a 6x250GB RAID 5 array. This is my first RAID 5 array and I was wondering how often most people do this?
B. I also noticed that under my array settings, there is an option under "Disk Parameters" to "Enable S.M.A.R.T Check". This will:
"Enable S.M.A.R.T. Check
Checkbox tells PAM to regularly monitor each drive to assure that drive failure prediction is functioning. "
By default it was unchecked. I'm not sure why this option would be unchecked by default being that that function will help detect a failing drive. Is there any reason why I WOULDN'T want that checked?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
