No my prayers weren't answered. Being this late to the market puts them within a month (rumored) time frame of iPhone 4s/5, Nexus Prime. As a consumer I'm inclined to wait the additional time to see what the other players bring to the market. I'm sure the Galaxy will still sell very well but Samsung shot themselves in the foot on this one IMO.

Is it rectangle with round corners? Apple will SUE!!!

Yeah no shit. Someone needs to tell Apple to shove their frivolous lawsuits up their whiny asses. I like Apple devices and have owned the previous two iPhones but a company acting like a petulant child does not exude confidence in being competitive.

Pretty much this. iPhone5, Nexus Prime, and Windows Mango phones interest me now. I'm no longer interested in the Galaxy S2.

First, Samsung has a history of copying designs. They've previously been sued for it (not by Apple). It's been proven, with examples, of how Samsung has copied other company's designs (not just Apple's designs). And as I said to senseamp in a different thread, you can't validate or invalidate a patent or copyright design by one sentence fragment. Considering product descriptions and patents easily run multiple pages with diagrams and many other descriptions it is ridiculous to bring out the nerd rage over one sentence fragment.

Read my response in this thread since I don't want to clutter this one up with the same discussion. Basically, as you can see from the links that I provided, the Apple complaint has a lot more than "rectangular device with rounded corners" and once you actually read through the whole list, you can see that Apple does have a case. How strong of a case is up to the courts to decide. Every bleeding heart Android enthusiast will always point to the "rectangular device with rounded corners" but will ignore any post that points out the full complaint.

Nexus Prime is looking sexy. On the other hand, one can always wait around for phones due to the rumor mill. Eventually you just have to up and buy one. Assuming the S2 is $200 on the carriers sites, and Walmart sells it for $150, I'm gonna get one.

Just so we're clear, remember that Apple ripped off the iPhone physical design, and its UI layout from Samsung. They're a lot of like Vizzini from the Princess Bride. :p

Proof? I have never seen proof of this. I've seen this argued, but I've never seen proof.

And while we're trying to be clear, no single element of Apple's iPhone can be said to be unique. However, the way a company integrates known elements can make a product unique.

Seems weird that not too long ago everyone was up in arms and adamant against buying another Samsung phone because of their lack of OS updates. How time dulls the memory...

Yes I read that too and have been lurking the forums in the UK and they all talk about the latest firmwares and such. So they are getting some help from SAMMY over there.

And yet its said time and time again it wasn't Samsungs fault but instead the carriers who failed the consumer. How words have no meaning......

For those of us who root... wtf does this matter? As long as Samsung keeps leaving their phones with unencrypted bootloaders, you can upgrade your OS nightly if you want (CM). Those who don't root most likely don't even realize that they haven't gotten OS upgrades unless they were told about it.

Seems kind of a moot point for the vast majority of people.

Sammy wanted $ for Froyo because they saw it as a premium firmware upgrade. HTC and Motorola do not see firmware upgrades as premium and as such do not require $ for release. At least that's my understanding.

But really guys...phones rock now. I used to go through phone after phone. As soon as I read about these specs and those specs I'd immediately begin wanting it.

I have no such desire to move away from the Thunderbolt. It's fast, the huge wide screens super crisp, and holds very well in the hand. I just don't have any complaints. ;-)

And I'm up for an upgrade too!

(Vigor...pleeeease...no kickstand...no simultaneous 3g and talk...hah!)

I have Mango RTM installed on an HD7. Tons of improvements, especially in the browser experience, but the OS doesn't have enough options for a power-user like me. I'll probably get some Mango phones for my parents, though.

You already know what the iPhone 5 will be: slightly thinner, slightly lighter, A5 SOC, iOS 5. Go install the newest build of iOS 5 on an iPad 2 and you'll get a general idea of the performance and user experience. If you like the iOS ecosystem, the iP5 is the only game in town.

Otherwise, in the handset space, the SGS2 will be toe-to-toe on specs with any phone released this year. The next big step up won't be out until 2012 with quad-core designs.

Now that Im really thinking about it, the Nexus One was released in January 2010, the Nexus S was released in mid December 2010. If following the track, the Nexus Prime should not be too far away.

4.5 Super AMOLED + HD? Ill be waiting for youuu. Too bad you won't ever see the light of day on Verizon =(

One good thing about the wait is that the community CM7 is pretty far along- American variant owners should have decent roms within 6 months.

I personally can't wait for SGS2 + CM7 because I really want a phone with WVGA, but I HATE how Samsung jacks up the DPI on all their devices. I have played with enough qHD devices to watch a few apps I really want to mess with on Android be incompatible with a higher resolution (Gamelot games, Chuzzle, etc.), so I would rather just decrease the DPI (much like I do on my Nook Color) to get rid of the cartoonishly big text rather than increase the resolution. My experience with a friend's Galaxy Tab has shown me that TouchWiz breaks into pieces when you decrease the DPI (I think its made for old people) so you need CM7 to do the job.

I hope they announce an early September release.

I don't GAF about SGS2. That's not MY prayers.

Tell me if there's going to be a fucking 2.3 update for the goddamned Vibrant, Samsung, if you EVER want my business again! >=|

OK, I was pretty sure LTE couldn't happen, but now that a Korean version is launching with LTE I'm believing it.

Only problem is that it's a Snapdragon and not Exynos. (*Another* new hardware config for the modders to account for.) Well, maybe it'll go back to Wolfson for the audio...

There's a bunch of 2.3.5 ROMs for the Vibrant on XDA. Not sure how stable the builds are though since I dont really keep up with it.

I'm running Trigger Redux CM7 804, but 2.3's battery life isn't near as good as 2.2s. And it never will be unless Samsung releases a leak or a source.

Edit: there's other problems with 2.3.x that won't be fixed (or fixed correctly) without source.

See...that's exactly what I'm talking about. There's so many other good choices now...Tbolt, Sensation, G2, Droid3, Atrix, Evo3d...and so many more on the verge from companies that have a proven track record. The original incredible from more than a year ago is getting Gingerbread official.

Interesting info on Samungs dpi. I wondered why txt looked so freakishly horrible.

Apparently it was beyond you to glean the actual point from my post. It doesn't matter if it was or wasn't Samsung's fault, my post said that people were angry at Samsung for the update not being released. Facts are nothing, public perception is everything.
