is dropping the Vcore from 2.0v to 1.85v worth a 57.5MHz loss? also is a barton clocked at 2.37 pretty good compared to whats out right now?

i would never run a t-bred or barton over 1.8 or 1.85 volts
it is dangerous on the .13u process

i would definately decrease the voltage and take the marginal performance hit
you can make up for it easily with just driver updates lol
save you processor

take it from someone who has burned 5 of these puppies from overvolting (two of which went out around 1.85v)

btw the proc in my sig is burned out now at 1.74v cause i ran it at 1.86v for a few days
1.8 or even 1.7 will be my cutoff point for my new 2500+

also cooling really won't help from overvoltage damage i've tryed subzero cooling with the same results

i just hope it's not too late for you
good luck

well my temps at 2.0v was 54-56c under load.

i set it back cause about two days ago my computer started crashing out of 3dmark03 back into windows. i thought it was my memory cause my fsb was at 211 with timings of 11,2,2,2.

so i set back the fsb to 206 so i could keep the memory at those timings cause a fsb of 215 with 11,3,3,2.5 was less bandwidth than at 206 with timings of 11,2,2,2.

my Vcore is at 1.85 now and i don't break 50C under load now.

wow.. 2.0V
thats a high voltage..
again for less than 60Mhz.... won't be worth it unless you are a damn overclocker ..
which means even 0.5 Mhz counts.. ;)

what speed can you hold stable at 1.8v ??
maybe 1.75 ??

are those just 50mhz gains too ?

was i right in assuming that my crashes out of programs and back into the desktop were caused by the memory. i dropped my proc speed to like 1.9GHz with stock voltage and upped the fsb. i could only do 215 at 11,3,3,2.5

could my temps have caused crashing also? cause the day after we turned the AC off was when crashing started. temps under load was 54-56c.

if your lucky it was just the mem and/or heat
if not then you could have permanent damage to your cpu

i'll cross my fingers for you and point at the first option

hehe

also a barton clocked at 2.3 is very good compared to what is out right now
one at 2.2 is good also just as long as the cpu lasts at the volts you need to run those speeds longer than a month

sisoft sandra and 3dmark 2003 are great if you wanna compare to other systems, but i'm sure you know of them already

yea shady i realized that .15volts and about 10c hotter temps aren't worth 57 mhz. although that little bit changed some benches a decent amount.

i think watercooling would satisfy my craving for max speed.

benches are just for mental reassurance. we all want the highest scores, but realistically 57mhz isnt going to change any real world performance and definately not worth the .15v and 10C increase.

Aren't you the one who thumbed your nose at people who told you running over 2.0 volts with a Barton would bring certain death to your CPU?

yep, but my cpu didn't fry, its perfectly fine. i just crashed out of a program a few days ago with it at 2.43Ghz and Vcore of 1.975. so i figured i can't go higher so i guess i gotta take the bite and lower it some. it was my first real hardcore overclock so i was a little stubborn and thickheaded about getting the result i wanted. but you take what you can get i guess :)

what multiplier do you have to set in the bios to get that speed with your xp2500+ I got the same processor but running 512 mb crucial 2700ddr, what's the max I could oc mine too ?

Keep running at that voltage... I'll probably need to unload my current XP2500 in a couple months... I'll give you a good deal on it.
