It doesn't look like anything I would pay for, considering that most or all of the info is available for free, online. Edmunds has all the pricing info, and an excellent guide to negotiation. Your bank may offer its own negotiation service (I know mine, USAA, does), which will get you a great price without all the hassle. The last time I bought a new car, I used Autobytel, and if you have a good dealer nearby, that process is a breeze. I got my Maxima for $300 below invoice, and the entire negotiation took less than ten minutes. I can't tell how much FC costs (their web site seems to be badly broken), but I can't imagine paying any real money for this.

well i have been doing a ton of reading on tips for bargining...i have priced a new car on edmunds and it seems to be roughly $29,295 for the version we kinda liked and the extras on a 2004 4runner

well the MSRP is 31,800 on most of the stickers at the dealer...

now i have never experienced buying a new car...we are very serious and want to get something soon

when you go to the dealer contact person and start to haggle...what are some good ways to get the process going ? i know they mess with you the entire time and give you a song and dance....

do you play the game ?

or

just give them the price you are willing to pay...(the price on edumds.com)

for instance "the highest we are willing to go is $29,295...and not a penny over"

and then they probably come back and say...no that is too low...

do ya just walk ?

if anyone has some experiences at this i would greatly appreciate it...i feel like such a uber dork about asking but i think it would help just to hear how others handled these guys

thanks

I love my 01 4runner. The 4th gen runners are bigger inside then the 3rd gens.

check out yotatech.com to ask more questions or find out the answers to your questions about 4runners.

Pilot - definitely, unless you're going off-road. The 4runner has zero rear legroom, and in the rear your legs are angled like in a car. It's also small inside. Even my Rodeo, which is shorter, feels more roomy.

The Pilot has more room and can be converted into 3 rows of seats. Very handy. Poor man's MDX. :)

I was in the same situation last yr, at the end I picked the 4runner sport edition v8, eventhough, it was a bit (1.5k) more than a pilot. I never like honda because (IMHO, you don't have to agree with me) I feel like they are gonna fall apart after a few yrs, but they've definitely priced this pilot right, and have lots to offer.

If you don't need the off-road abilities of the 4Runner, you may be better off with a Pilot or Highlander, which will handle better and be more efficient on the road.

Well put, these are not the same types of trucks.

My pick would be the Pilot.

This is what I would do - for a Toyota or Honda.

Consider the fact that the average retail price of a new car is over 30k, yet the average selling price of a new car is about 26k. For Japanese cars in demand, if you can get it for 4-4.5% off retail its a good deal. Demand that you get all the promos, rebates, etc up front, minus a 5% difference and calculate that figure.

Then add tax, title, license. Don't go for BS fees like pinstripes, rustproofing, etc. The total is an out-the-door price you demand. Settle for up to 500$ or so more, but if no deal, move on.
