I love my 4Runner.... kicks a$$ in the snow... good cargo/hauling capacity.... and pretty decent mileage.

I have the 03 4Runner Sport Edition v8

tough choice,
the interior of the pilot has nothing on the 4 runner.
Build quality should be a lil better on the 4 runner.

I believe the Pilot is some what roomier, from what I noticed when my friend had it before it got totaled. ( he was sandwiched between an 18 wheeler, and the center cement divider. His pilot rolled, and he came out scratch free :D )

If you want happiness in your home, get what the wife wants :)
You can always get the plate WifeW0N

They're both great vehicles, but I had to choose the pilot :)
If the vehicle was for me, i'd get the 4runner :)

These two are not really competitors - the Highlander really is the direct competition for the Pilot, in that they are both car-based unibody SUVs, whereas the 4Runner is a body-on-frame design that is much better suited to real off-road use. If you don't need the off-road abilities of the 4Runner, you may be better off with a Pilot or Highlander, which will handle better and be more efficient on the road.

Will you be doing any towing at all? If so, get the 4Runner. If not, get the Pilot. It's got more room, a better ride, and IMHO it looks better :p

4-Runner. Way nicer interior, V8 engine, rugged off-road and it's ride quality is AWESOME despite the fact that it's BoF with a SRA.

NFS4 is definitely a Toyota guy so I think he might be a touch biased. But his assessment is spot on . . . not that I'm waffling. I agree with Don_Vito that the Highlander/Pilot comparison makes more sense (for your wife maybe). The hybrid Highlander is arguably a superior overall vehicle to the Pilot EX.

They are both SUVs, actually (though the car-based Pilot is more minivan-like than the 4Runner).

i refuse to acknowledge the pilot as an SUV, since it is built on the odyssey platform. also consider that the first generation odyssey had 4 regular doors, not sliding doors, and you'll see that this is nothing new for a minivan.
