I'm thinking about getting this budget cpu/mobo combo from Newegg but i dont' know much experience with Athlon XP-M chips.

Any other good deals on combo's? I do plan on gaming on this..... but not frequently

Thanks!

If you've got a Fry's near you, you might be able to pick up a 3100+ Sempron+ECS Mobo combo for $90.

I believe the Sempron will be faster, as its pretty much an A64 with half the L2 cache.

Definately go with the ECS NF3 and Sempron 3100+ -- Socket A is essentially dead. You'd still need to get a heatsink and fan if you went with the ECS/Sempron combo, but even with that, it would still be about the same price as the XP-M combo.

Depending on the RAM you've got and if you want to overclock, you could probably hit 2.25-2.4Ghz with the 3100+ Sempron.

Check out the long thread in Hot Deals for more info:

That 1.6 is almost guaranteed to 1.8ghz (8x225fsb) with no voltage increase. Those in that link say it will do 2.0ghz (8x250), but that's gonna need some volts. I don't have any benchies; try that other link.
