yeah, between a geforce2 gts and an mx of any kind there is no debate. the vistiontek geforce2 gts-v is my choice for around $60. nVidia releases an official driver every month or 2(which is better than any other company i can think of), with lots of betas in between. they release the betas to test the drivers, as a large pool of actual users can test things more effectively than a small pool of inhouse testers can.

It all depends on what the business is. If it is just office based / spreadsheet work almost any card will do (g450 looks half decent), if it is any CAD based work then no question the MX those poor nvdia drivers provide excellent performance. please people ignore powervr perhaps he might go away....

Gaaaaa... No on the MX and CAD solution. I have an older MX at home and it's a nightmare with AutoCAD. For CAD it's a must that you try before you buy, period.

<< do you think that good drivers can get mx400 playable at 1024x768x32..

well it doesn't.
MX400 lack bandwidth to do T&L... T&L needs lots of bandwidth power and mx400 doesn't have any of those...
it lack enough bandwidth to get playable fps at normal resolutions 1024x768x32....
>>

Nothing to add - just read that quote again and again......U might find the truth about the worst chipset nVidia has ever made for the low budget segment.....
No need to say that I totally respect the rest of the GeForce2 & 3 family....

<< hum...
well.... nvidia drivers are not that great..
ati drivers are also great
like kyro 2 drivers (my last kyro drivers don't have a week of life)

you will get something superior if you go non-nvidia... and cheaper....
>>

That has to be the whackiest statement Ive heard this month? I hope that was part of backwards day or some sort of sarcasum cause if not you just toasted any future credability to xtra well done.

Anyway the MX400 is the absolute worst GF2 money can buy, I suggest any GF2 product other than that or something in the original Radeon series w/a T&L engine.

I used to put up with a TNT at work for Cad so believe me a MX is a step up and is more than capable for most low - end work.

so, anyway is there a significant speed improvement over the voodoo and riva tnt cards or should go ahead and upgrade them?

There is a large speed increase in 3D. You might also want to look at a Radeon LE which is often the same price as an MX but it's faster.

well.... nvidia drivers are not that great..

Yes they are. They're superb.

ati drivers are also great

Not quite as good as nVidia's though.

like kyro 2 drivers (my last kyro drivers don't have a week of life)

That's nice but what does that have to do with anything? And no, my drivers don't last a week either. I'm been using 2250s for over a month and I don't have any plans to upgrade.

do you think that good drivers can get mx400 playable at 1024x768x32..

Well since 25 FPS is playable to you then it means that the MX400 is probably playable at 1600 x 1200.

and everything american made is better right?

Please, stop your trollish comments right now. You know very well what happens when we go down this route. Stick to facts and logic.

Well back in March or April 2001 I built a system for one of my colleagues at work - He is the CAD manager - and he was totally impressed with the quality of the MSI GF2 MX 400 card that I put into his system. Objective opinion!

He does wear contact lenses but I'm sure he had them in when he used the PC ;)

The GF2 MX card is still a viable option for most gamers out there and has no problems that I have ever seen with 2D - I admit I have "heard" of poor 2D performance - but I have not actually seen this at first hand. I believe it occurs at very high resolutions - which to be honest most consumers are not using.

I would not hesitate to recommend the GF 2 MX as a budget performer - but would recommend a GF2 GTS/Pro if the cost delta was reasonable.
