Right now, mine is pretty low.

The first one I worked with I met once and that was it. Never heard from her again.

The second one just seems to not really care. I met with her and we went over a few things and she asked me to do a few things and call her back. She seemed totally not interested in what I had to say at all when I called her back.

The third one just seems really pushy. I guess she just wants to get her commission or whatever.

If they are good and actually work FOR you (meaning they get a cut of your starting salary) they can be great. These are the people you want to build a good relationship with, give them a call every month or so to say hello, try to throw some business their way, etc.

If it's just contracting crap then not so much. Those aren't recruiters, those are seat fillers.

Where do you find one of these job finders? I will be needing to get a full-time position in about 10 months that will pay at least $35,000. I would like more like $43,000+.

Recrutiers are great if they specialize in certain areas and you have good prior experience.

In the accounting & finance world they seem to know their stuff and are working for both sides to make a happy match.

the hr manager at my previous position contacted 2 of them for me.

this last one contacted me after seeing my resume on a job search site. if you look at job ads its pretty obvious which ones are job recruiters.

Cookie-cutter recruiters are nothing but "used car salesmen." Internal recruiters and headhunters are the ones who actually know their stuff and can land you a good job.

I've got one guy that is on his own. He's great and has LOTs of contacts and relationships with employers. We speak at least once a month to just check up on what's going on, I tell him what I'm seeing, throw him some names/hook him up and he keeps an eye out for me.

This is where relationship building really comes in handy. A mentor of mine said it best regarding professional networking "you can't grow your garden if you don't tend and nurture it"
