No. You can't 'fabricate them.' But you can understand the principles behind the analog amplifier and the correct stages and frequency responses to handle the analog signal; you can understand the transforms required to move them into the frequency domain and the math required to do so; you can understand the principles behind the signal conversion into digital and the sampling requirements to get a good signal; and then you could understand the architecture required to move the new signal within a digital system and get it into a form where it could be processed and analyzed for whatever you are looking to do with it.

According to your example, you couldn't 'fabricate' an 8088 or whatever you said in your original post. You don't 'fabricate' things on a single-unit scale.

Yes then I guess I can make imaginary fabrications of my devices because I know HOW to. The only possible way you could make a sound card is to make a software based soundcard utilizing the CPU's processing and have the appropriate connectors, circuit board and an interface to hook up to the computer. If your really skilled you could make a PCI or ISA board, my electronics class in HS had a way of doing this but it would be very time consuming just to make the board. If I knew how to program I probably could make my own sound card which would be cool but since I can't it will never happen. Another possible connection would be like a serial or USB port but USB would be even more complicated.... So much...

I feel like episodic - I know more than most people about computers. But I don't think I can constitute myself as a nerd.. .and I don't think I'd be obnoxious enough to be a "fake nerd"

Though its nice when people come to you with a computer problem and you can successfully help em' out... I know when the problem is too deep for me and just refer em' to my brother. He knows his $hit.
