Your online identity

Do you maintain a relatively consistent online identity, across the internet?

For example, I'm fairly consistent. For the past... eh.... two years or so, I've been "GeekDrew" across all of the forums, etc., that I've been able to use that name. The only notable exception is over at GigglyGrinch Forums, where I'm "Andrew"... but everyone over there knows who I am anyway. Changing my username from "Drew" to "Andrew" met with quite a bit of dissension in the ranks, but they were overruled 😛 On AIM, "GeekDrew" was unavailable (but nobody has ever signed on using that name, in the last couple of years), but my AIM username is similar. It's generally safe to say that any "GeekDrew" on the internet is me. 😉 (Well, until now... someone will probably create an account somewhere using that name, just to prove me wrong!)

Other people, I'm told, randomly choose usernames on different websites, try to keep people from "knowing" them online, etc. I did that when I was new to the internet... I decided in the late 90s that it was too much of a hassle to maintain different usernames across different websites.

So what do you do?

I am almost always one thing. Only for some reason I decided on Jaysgirl here, which I don't use anywhere else.

Consistent.

I may however be in line for the "most dissociative known user utilizing one username" nomination.

I'm Amused everywhere I go. Even games.

If I cannot be Amused, then oimamused or AmusedOne.

Pretty consistent, yes. Most places, I am Supermercado but I think it was taken when I registered here, so I used an accidental mispronounciation of my name instead.

I use this name for all message boards, but I have several for games. I mostly use omnipotent1 and LUEk Skywalker.

LUEk Skywalker, like for the Life the Univers and Everything forums?

I'm fairly consistant, except here is kind of an exception. I generally use "Aflak" everywhere (my last name sounds like aflac when that duck says it, and people started quacking at me, so I went ahead and made it my name online).

I used to use ROUS from princess bride, my AIM account still uses that (I think I started it . . . 7 years ago or so).

If you see an Aflak in IL-2, it's me.

Oh snap I thought the poll meant something else, shoulda voted no...

My names vary greatly across the internet.

You probably figured the same as I did, the way you act in different places.

I was the original KarenMarie. When I started on the internet... well, the superhighway was only 2 lanes back then. There were not many girls online and I was the only KarenMarie around.

But when I moved from the UK to the USA, I had to reregister a lot of stuff and KarenMarie was taken in a lot of places. I remember reregistering on IRC and hacving ppl contacting me about stuff we did online ....!!!.... someone else had the name for a while.

Popular places, like yahoo, msn... etc.. someone else has KarenMarie registered alreaddy. But geek places like this, I am safe.

🙂
