Plan on getting Evo3D. I will not be rooting it (can't now anyway).

I did some googling and give me your feedback or suggest a better alternative:

-Opentable (restaurant reservations)
-Shazam
-QR code scanner
-Kayak for hotel/airfare (Do you know any better ones?)
-Kindle
-Tip calculator (what's a good one with split options)
-Google Translate
-Chase (my primary CC)
-Mint
-Dropbox
-google voice
-What's a good cookbook app? Allrecipe.com have an app?

I'm sure I'm missing a crapton of things I'm not even aware I should have.

all i use on that list is a barcode scanner *Shrug*

heres my nerd list. i like to sync a lot of stuff between phone/pc/gmail which explains a lot of my apps.

-gtasks: lightweight notepad that syncs to your gmail account
- mobilenoter - but i use ms one note a lot and this syncs notebooks to my phone
-google docs
-pandora
-a data usage app
-listen
-amazon.com/amazon mp3
-winamp (i like doubletwists interface better, but it doesnt auto-update your music library, and the default media player is balls)
-iRemote - controls your windows media player
-es file explorer - i liked this more than another popular alternative
-wifi analyzer (im a nerd, ok?)
-some lightsaber app (you have to.)
-weather channel
-gmote (windows media remote, pc remote mouse/kb)
-prey - remote locator/security
-phonemarks - sync chrome bookmarks to your phone
-chrome to phone - http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/ its handy
-connectbot - shh client

Native android browser not good enough?

I second the Dolphin browser. The best feature is the ability to turn the volume up/down button into a page up/page down if you press it, and home/end if you hold it down for a second. I can't do without this on either my android phone or tablet.

Acar- lets you input detailed service/fuel records, and costs, schedule alarms for due dates for your car(s) maintenance etc.

Nope, not on my phone. I was trying to use the native browser with my Asus Transformer tablet, but last night got fed up and went back to Dolphin. So much better.

huh? Is the Evo3D Android browser same as yours? (assuming yours is Android too).

<-- totally new.

I'd like to avoid using third party browsers if the default one on Evo3D is good enough.

Why? Best part about Android is you can replace core programs with better ones. That is why I use Opera Mobile for my browser (only Android browser as smooth as mobile Safari) and Launcher Pro as my laucher.

Don't know anything about the Evo3D, but unless the stock "internet" app is revolutionary, I'd assume it's the same generic internet app found on all android phones I've used. Guess if you're satisfied with IE on your pc, the stock mobile internet will do.

The browser in Sense branded phones (pretty much all HTC's) is not the stock Android browser AFAIK.

Saying that I still prefer Opera mobile to Dolphin. Dolphin always seem a bit "messy".

If you have a windows home server then WHSphone is pretty awesome (works for Android or WinPho7)

Dolphin and xScope are ok. I actually prefer stock browser.

However Opera Mobile sweeps the floor.

Other important apps;
- Titanium Backup
- Launcher Pro
- GoSMS (Handcent is more bloatware than MotoBLUR)
- Audiomanager Pro
- Beautiful Widgets

Alarm Clock Plus. Great improvement to the stock clock and well worth paying for.

My question too. Using one with Android is about as foolish as it gets.

i use it on the rare event that i am doing this, that and the other on my phone more or less at once and it starts to slow down. but i have to be doing a lot to get to that point, so i dont use it too often

A task killer can be useful if a poorly written app is running in the background when it shouldn't be. Generally you don't need to use one though.

I found that soundhound works better than shazam

others I would include:
ASTRO - file explorer
IM+ - best IM client I've found
Note Everything - Perfer it over the other 'sticky note' options for its ability to make sketch notes
Widgetsoid - power control replacement with a ton more options
Where's My Droid - in case you ever lose your phone

HTC sense comes with a pretty good RSS reader, but if you plan to use a custom launcher like launcher pro or ADW instead of sense, then Buzzbox is a decent replacement

edit: also if you plan to use Sense, I consider this mod 'must have'

i never used it to begin with. i installed opera and dolphin on day 1 of mu phone, i use both because for some reason opera wont play flash or me. another great feature of dolphin is that you can force it to render the normal website and not the normal version. a must have if you have a tablet IMO

Adobe Reader
Amazon Appstore (you'll have to download it from Amazon's website)
Astro File Manager
Barcode Scanner
Dropbox
Ebay
Newegg
Opera Mobile
TuneIn Radio

I love Launcher Pro but I hear Sense isn't half bad so you might not want it. Also, I love Beautiful Widgets but it's essentially a knockoff of the Sense clock/weather widget so you've got no need for it.

sometimes they bug out and need killing

This, plus also it saves battery life if I have some running in the background and don't exit out of them correctly. Like a game, I just press the home buttonn then hit the widget and I'm done instead of having to exit out all the way normally. Saves time.

I've personally never really used the stock browser except for the day I got my phone, and I installed Dolphin right away after reading about it. I was looking for Firefox, then found it, and it sucks on the phone. I really like the ability to put a J for Joystiq and F for Facebook and etc. into the options to quickly navigate instead of having to pull up bookmarks or type it in. Really good browser, and navigates quickly for me.

Oh, I also use LauncherPro, but haven't tried any alternatives.

Some others:
Titanium Backup (Pro)
Astro (File Manager)
AdFree
Google Maps Navigation
SetCPU

Then again my phone is rooted too, so...

Titanium backup (pro)
E.Sports Browser i like it more then the ESPN official app but it still links right to ESPN
Pulse news reader is great
Beautiful widgets - however Fancy Widgets is just as good and was free a few weeks ago on amazons app store
