OP: there are way too many apps out there now for something like a quick list to really help. Check out appbrain.com. Its a great resource for finding new apps. It will also backup your apps for if/when you flash a different ROM or get a new phone.

I had a running list but it got out of control. I'd be willing to bet that I have tried at least 200 apps now. One list just isn't a help anymore.

The only "must have" apps for me are Launcher Pro and Google Voice (I think Gmail is a given).

Other apps I download immediately when I go with a new one, but aren't really must haves:
Root Explorer
My Tracks
Google Sky Map/Translate/Street View/Maps

These are the ones I use the most:

Launcher Pro
Swype
Minimalistic Text
Handcent SMS
Live Scores (aka Yahoo Sportacular)
Movies (Flixster)
imo (instant messenger)
Tiny Flashlight
Yelp
TV Listings

Games:
Wixel (similar to Boggle or Scramble)
Air Control
Angry Birds
Bonsai Blast
Fruit Ninja
Robo Defense
SliceIt (tons of irritating ads BUT a fun game)

Beautiful Widgets used to be good but I always get force closes now. Maybe it's just me. The widgets are great but it got too annoying so now I use Minimalistic Text as my home widget.

This wouldn't be an advertisement or anything would it?

:hmm:

Well essentially your advertisement works, and I paid for the game after not being able to find the "Lite" version on my phone. I played around with it for a few minutes, and TBH, it sucks.

sucka

Why does it suck? Maybe an intelligent critique will make it better

It's a launcher replacement. Think of it as the phone's windowing system.

LP, though great, seems to be abandoned. I'd suggest Go Launcher EX for the novice.

"Running atk on 2.1+ is just plain stupid"

The truth - there is NO NEED to run advanced task killer, or anything like it, anymore on an android phone
