Your lower jaw being ripped off

Hypothetical situation inspired by The Golden Compass, Venture Brothers and The Grudge 1: You get the lower portion of your jaw ripped off. I assume since it's a pretty severe injury, blood is going to be pouring out at an alarming rate. There was a boy who survived here such an ordeal and they were able to re-attach his jaw after a 7 hour procedure.

However, if you manage to survive, you guys (and gals) think is it possible to do anything in terms of putting something on there that isn't your jaw? The only logical thing I can think of is a skin graft or something like that to cover the wound but what do you think they would do if it were not possible to reattach the jaw?

Discuss.

I would push for a metal alloy lower portion to make me look like the terminator. On another note, I dont even want to think about an injury like that.

Unless the bone itself was destroyed, they'd just use plates to reattach it. The only part that sucks, they'll try with just the bone first, then wire you shut. You won't find out if they're going to redo the surgery until you're unwired.

I'd leave it off and have it preserved... that way whenever I see something shocking I could take it out and drop it on the floor for effect.

The deformed face and tongue flapping in the wind, no, that would just slip under the conversation radar. :)

Reattaching the jaw would not be a problem. Getting the muscles all connected and healing would be the main concern as well as blood flow. There is a crapload of complex muscle structure around the lower jaw and lips.

Build it with some sort of integrated vibrator, with an inductive charging circuit.
With some training on its use, I'm sure it could be enjoyable for someone's significant other(s). ;)

BIRDS ATE MY FACE!

This is a big topic of Invisible monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. You just have to wear a veil at all times and eat stuff like baby food. You can't really talk normally without a lower jaw either so bring a PDA or a pen and a notepad.

Winnar!

OP gets props too for the Golden Compass (please say you read the book, although I kinda doubt they had that in the PG movie, so...) and Venture Bros. reference.

Actually, it was on HBO just now and they showed that scene. Kinda surprised me that it was PG...

i think if that happens, the only option is to go biomechanical jaw, shave your head, get some tattoos, walk around in a cape, and call yourself Darth Malak.

I actually have it sitting here, its PG-13. I was not aware of that. I haven't watched it and don't know if I will or not.
