There some really retarded suggestions here. American Pie 2? What reason can you give that you need this on DVD before you get Apocalypse Now?

some are must haves some are not

I would argue that to make the must have list you have to have a movie that fulfills some or all of the following criteria:

1. Recent movie
2. remastered version of an old movie
3. 5.1 Surround soundtrack - my favorite aspect of DVDs
4. good special features
5. Involves submarines - always seem to utilize surround really well
6. Is animated - modern animation is SO good on DVD
7. Has "Director's Cut" or "Special Edition" or "Criterion Edition" in the title
