ISP: Time Warner

Standard package as advertised: 6Mbps down, 512Kbps up.

What I'm getting (according to Speakeasy.net bandwidth meter): 3.4Mbps down, 320Kbps up.

Reality: pr0n is still downloading too slow, uploading to FTP is a peta (max I've seen is at 80Kbps).

Excuse: We're restructuring.

Yours?

The home networking package.

They have been slowly upping my speeds over the past year as they upgrade their networks. At first it totally sucked and was off and on like crazy but now it is rock solid and blazing fast. Started out at 4MBps down with 384Kbps up now I'm up to ~16Mbps down with ~768Kbps up.

Note: The ~16Mbps and ~768kbps up were measured using DSLreports/speakeasy.net.

Reality: I'm running out of hard drive space.

Cost: 60 bucks or something.

I find that speakeasy and other tests are fairly inaccurate. Do it over and over and over again, and you may eventually get one thats accurate.

Since I download a lot, I know how much I actually get at any given time - and I've done lots of the speed tests which is why I can say this.

Any way.

ISP: Comcast

Standard package as advertised: 8Mbps down, 384Kbps up.

What I'm getting (according to uTorrent): Average of 10Mbps down and up to 12-15Mbps down, average about 450-512Kbps up.

I think I'm lucky though. I've actually seen the damn throughput go through the roof for maybe 30 seconds at a time every once and a while, maybe get 20 Mbps or so. I didn't even know Cable modem could go this fast.

BTW, I think I'm a lucky one because I got 8-10Mbps when I paid for the 6Mbps and only upgraded to the 8Mbps for the faster upload

What I'm paying for: 10mbps down/1mbps up
What I'm getting: 6 down, 600 up
Excuse: Old infastructure, which is true. I work for that company, and in the newer areas it's exactly what you pay for, if not more.

If you're testing speeds the ONLY way to do it accurately is transferring file from within their own network. Once you jump off your provider's network to a 3rd party they can't control that, so don't try DSL Reports speed tests and crap like that. Upload/dload to a on-net FTP or NNTP

ISP: speakeasy
download: 1.5Mbps
upload: 384 kbps
cost: ~70 w/ taxes. :(

I wonder if it is time for me to change provider. I have been with them since forever. I did test out comcast a while back, but the connection would drop every other minute.
