Well, it is true, I am THINKING about buying two new parts: A new cpu and mobo. This Saturday I should be buying 256 mb pc 133 sdram for $59 Canadian. I currently have a p2 400 with 64 mb pc 100 sdram, 30 gb 7200 rpm hd, asus p2 99 and win 2k. My Win 2k lags cause of my low memory so I am going to for sure buy some more, considering how cheap it is. I would like some recommendations on a new cpu and mobo. Pls keep in mind that I want to only spend about $200-250 Canadian if possible. I do not want the best system available (who the hell needs a p4 1.7 ghz???) I don't need some amd 1.5 ghz cpu or whatever. I do not want a mobo that supports ddr ram, this is just a cheap upgrade because I can not stand the constant lag and slow speed I experience. So pls make some recommendations. For example, I may want a duron 800 or 850 with a good asus/abit mobo that supports both durons/t-birds (t-birds for future upgrades). Which parts should I pick? Pls recommend. (as you can see, I think amd is a really good idea because it out performs intel and is cheaper!!!) (posted twice for better input)
Thanks a lot! :)

OVERCLOCKING AINT GONNA HAPPEN (for me):)

I would go with a Athlon, not a Duron at 1Ghz as it about 80 bucks, and you can surly find a mobo for under 150. Make sure you purchase the 1Ghz with the 266 FBS. This computer will last you longer that if you were to buy a 850 duron, and the price differance is not that great. GL

EDIT: I say a 1Ghz because I think it is the first CPU to support the 266 FBS

Hey,
uhm, you should probably go for the 1 Gigz Athlon Tbird w/ 266 fsb like Avalanche said, uhm I just ordered an Epox 8kta3 board from newegge for 95 bux (USD) which is really cheap. Anandtech had some good mobo roundups so you should go look through there. But yeah the epox board is pretty good, a friend of mine recommended it to me. Get the 8kta3+ if you want raid, if not just get the 8kta3. Well good luck.

I don't exactly have the money or desire to get a $149.99 cpu. I'd rather spend $79.99 and get a Duron 850. I don't want to perform a major update and I don't run games at 1600x1200 and I don't use an Adobe stuff, so why upgrade more than I need to. If I want an amd 1.2 g or whatever I will wait for about a year or more when it is like 100 bux.
