Drake from Uncharted owns. he truly is a funny and likeable character.
Ratchet and Clank also own.
Kratos is one badass mofo as well.

For me, I was going to go with Gordon Freeman but he really isn't much of a character in my mind, I mean you don't really see much of who he really is and whatnot. Hmmm. I guess I'll go with Duke Nukem, haha.

You can kind of judge Gordon Freeman by his actions that play out in the stories of the games and the reactions of the other characters. Dude is obviously awesome if he's a physicist at 27, makes it out of a aliens-from-another-dimension infested and military quarantined underground complex and leads a revolution against the aliens and their underlings who are enslaving earth.

Granted, he had plenty of help. But I'm betting he's a nice guy

Crono from Chrono Trigger is a similar character. There isn't any written material for him (save for that one ending), but you have to figure the guy traveling through time to save the cheerleader princess and the world is good.

I am most pleased with most of these people. No wimpy little winers made the list (see: many of the male characters from Final Fantasy; although I give a slight pass to Squall because he changed quite a bit in the game, but its a very slight pass). If I had to pick, I couldn't take one: but one that I really liked is Tali Zora from Mass Effect. I really liked her personality and background. Wrex is also awesome, but I Can't relate to him as much. I could pick a lot of others from the years prior with the countless games I played that aren't as recent, but I find I enjoy the mature aspects of these characters more. Teenie super heros were cool and all, but I want something more intellectually stimulating...so I find that I like those characters more when I encounter them.
