Gin is pretty good, but tonic water is nasty stuff.
I'm kind of ambivalent on gin. I can drink it straight, but there's other things I'd much rather have. Hendricks is my favorite in my limited experience. It's a bit sweeter than the classic London dry. To make a G&T. I keep the gin in the freezer, and the tonic water in the fridge. Pour a double to triple measure of gin in a glass, squeeze half a lime in the glass, and drop in the rinds, then fill the remainder with tonic. I don't make ice, but keeping the gin in the freezer makes it cold enough. I like the flavor blend, but I'm not fond of tonic by itself.
