Queasy: Night of the Lepus is classic! Hey, does any one know where I can get a copy of this? Retail or recorded, as long as it's in good condition, I won't care!
John Carpenter definetly did some strange movies in his early years. Too bad the B-ness of such movies as They Live and Assault on Precinct 13 has been lost with his more recent stuff like Ghosts of Mars.... Which COULD easily be construed as a B-movie, but seems to take itself a little too seriously.
If you want true B-ness, you've got to mention Full Moon Entertainment
🙂 Nothing like an entire movie house dedicated to the genera! They're the ones responsible for the Puppter Master series, Sub Species series, and a host of low budget movies, often horror related. My fav from them has got to be the Trancers series, staring one of their more recognizeable actors, Tim Thomerson. That man has been in more B-movies that I could shake a rotting zombie limb at.
Hee, how's this for B-Movie bliss? Tim Thomerson and Bruce Campbell in a movie together?
😉
As for older movies, pretty much anything with Bela Lugosi or Vincent Price is easily fair game. Price's Dr. Phibes series is a very clever example of this sub-genera.
Three examples of total classic B-Movies from a great director have to be, in my mind, are Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Dead Alive. From the man who would eventually bring you Middle Earth, you have aliens and exploding sheep, sex-crazed muppets, and kung-fu priests vs killer zombies. (Any movie with the line like "I kick @$$ for the Lord!!" has to be mentioned here).
Oh, and I recently saw Hell Comes to Frogtown with Roddy Piper is out on DVD! Any movie that has an armoured cup placed on that man's crotch (not to mention the rather... well endowed main enemy) has GOT to be worthy of mention here.
I would go on about more, but
badmovies.org does all this SO much better than I could
🙂
