Ignore this thread if you dislike Emo...

Anyway, I was wondering what bands you other Emo lovers recommend? Currently I've got:

Dashboard Confessional
Finch
Further Seems Forever
Jimmy Eat World
Something Corporate
Taking Back Sunday
The All-American Rejects
Wakefield

I know not all of that is "pure" emo, but it's in my emo category so its emo to me. :)

By the way - as a fan and not a trendoid that talks about music I've never known how to pronounce "emo".. I mean, I know the music and know "emo" is short for "emotional" but is emo pronounce "e-mo" or "em-o"? dumb question of the day!

ew, the new juliana theory stuff sucks, esp compared to the old.

elliot
dieradiodie
i used to like limbeck when they were on utility records.. i heard their doghouse release isnt that great
jimmy eat world
and of course weezer

anyway, dont just listen to emo. it's good music and all, the scene is horrible, but listen to other "punk" genres too.. i mean you like finch (i wouldnt call them exactly emo), that means you'd probably like a static lullaby, the used, maybe glassjaw.. coheed and cambria is probably my favorite rock group of the moment.

if you like pop stuff, find stuff by 'winning jersey'

Well, I think calling it "slower, sappy type songs" is a bit of a simplification.. That would mean that john tesh and billy joel are emo artists.. Emo comes from the punk/hardcore scene but tends to be more introspective and "emotional" - not really SOFT.. Some emo that I listen to is pretty visceral and "hard" actually...

i just drop the genre stuff. just call it music you like and quit with the labels.. you'll be happier not trying to explain the different kinds of genres and sub genres.

screamo.. wtf is that? that's ridiculous!

weezer: Yea, I've got a bunch of them. For some reason I've never considered them even close to being punk/emo. I still love them though. :)

Maybe I don't know about all of the punk genres... I know of Emo, Scremo, hardcore punk, "normal" punk, and pop punk. Under my "punk" category I've got a bunch of what I would call "pop" bands - i.e. Blink182, Simple Plan, Box Car Racer, Good Charlotte. I don't like Scremo or HC punk all that much however. So thats why Emo is pretty much what I listen to as far as punk goes.

It's not so much that it sucks as it is just a bullshit genre that these whiny crybabies put themselves into to displace themselves from their punk roots so they don't get classified as "alternative" which is what they really are.

I didn't know elmo was in a band. I'm still pissed about the breakup of bert and ernie, although I still listen to their old stuff.

That's what they called it when the Pixies and Pavement were popular. Then it was prog rock. Then indie rock. Now emo rock. There just had to be a genre to classify everything that diverges from one genre in a slightly different direction so as to avoid declassification. :Q

well.. now you've added all these other subgenres I'm not familiar with (screemo.. I like that.. it fits!).. but how 'bout

lagwagon
new amsterdams (get up kids in sheeps clothing)
the ataris?
hey mercedes
saves the day
legends of rodeo
our lady peace
recess theory
piebald
the starting line
thursday <-- somewhat screemish

any of them emo? whatever, they're kinda similar to the ones mentioned, so maybe they'd do..
