Your favorite Edgar Allen Poe stories?

A local Walden books closed last year and I was able to pick up a nice hardbook of the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe for $5 (800 pages). I've read several of his more famous stories like The Tell-Tell Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Black Cat, but there's many more that I've not heard of.

This is a listing I found from a book called 18 Best Stories by Edgar Allan Poe:

The Black Cat
The Fall of the House of Usher
The Masque of the Red Death
The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar
The Premature Burial
Ms. Found in a Bottle
A Tale of the Ragged Mountains
The Sphinx
The Murders in the Rue Morgue
The Tell-Tale Heart
The Gold-Bug
The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether
The Man That Was Used Up
The Balloon Hoax
A Descent Into the Maelstrom
The Purloined Letter
The Pit and The Pendulum
The Cask of Amontillado

Any other stories of his that you'd recommend?

The Cask of Amontillado i liked this one only because it took place in that dark scary cave place and it had a bit of mystery too it, good read and short

It has been some time since I've read any of his stuff, but The Cask of Amontillado and The Fall of the House of Usher are favorites.

Amontillado! Amontillado!

On a side note, he really has a fetish for "walling up" corpses and enemies. In several stories, someone or something ends up on the inside of a wall. 🙂

BlueWeasel an excellent choice. I have the same book that I picked up for like $8.00. Hell of a bargain. I've also got an equally large one containing every Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle complete with the original illustrations from the Strand that I have had for many years.

I have so many books to read though it will be a good while before I make it through the both of those but I do intend to reread my favorite Poe tales, most of which you already listed.

Panzer, is your book black with gold trim with "The Works of Edgar Allen Poe" on the front? 🙂

They had several classic books in hardback version, but this was the only one I really wanted.

It sure is! I am pretty certain I got mine from Barnes and Noble.
