You do know who John Carmack and Mark Rain are, right ? I'd say, google it ... Google brought me this, up to you to find more ^^
"Epic Games VP Mark Rein recently told CVG that, despite Microsoft's efforts to push the technology, DirectX 10 won't see much in the way of enthusiastic adoption, largely because game developers will "have to dumb the games down for the consoles" making it "less and less economically viable to do the super high-end stuff." Rein expects that Crytek's first person shooter Crysis will represent the zenith of graphical fidelity for years to come. That is, whenever Crysis is actually released."

But these gamers shouldn't fret too much - 10.1 adds virtually nothing that they will care about and, more to the point, adds almost nothing that developers are likely to care about.
My 8800 pwns any dx9 card you could possibly have, so I'm a happy camper.

Ohh god :! Inq editors are idiots. This thing has happened before "OMG DX9 is doomed.. OMG DX9C is screwing over everyone" anyways by next year their will be over 25+ major PC title that will effectively take advantage of DX10.
Top 5 DX10 title coming out this year
UT2007 : October
Bioshock : August
World in Conflict : September
Crysis : September
Hellgate london : November
Then games like Alan Wake that have annouced full support of DX10.1 will lead next year. Out of all the game Alan wake is pretty much the only game that can currently effectively take advantage of 6 processing thread which is awesomeif your a dude with with a quad core or 2x Quad core. That game had alot of support from Intel and Microsoft engineers. Its Intel and Microsoft baby to show what next gen hardware can really do. So next year when Remedy decide to license the engine , developers will release game with DX10 plus quad core support easily. Thats why Microsoft and Intel engineers spent crap-loads of time helping remedy tweak and develop the engine.

It's a sad reality. With the "next-gen" consoles having a livespan of 4+ years and the Xbox360 being based on DirectX9 hardware, the DirectX10 "revolution" propagated by Microsoft seems more and more like a perfide way to bury mainstream PC gaming.
Which developer will go the extra hazzle of adding true DirectX10 features or develop his engine from the ground up for D10 when 85% of the market will be DirectX9 for a long time?
This whole DirectX10, 10.1, whatever evolution seems like a beta testphase and we PC enthusiasts are the testers. When DirectX10 has matured enough (10.x) the next Xbox will probably use it but until then...nadda, nothing, zero.
Our only hope lies with cool developers like Crytek and Id (OpenGL ftw!) and a handful others who still want to push the limit and not dumb down.
As long as high-end graphics cards cost 500$+ PC gaming will die a slow and painful death.
I hope Nvidia realizes this and will change their policy.
On the positive side of things: if you have a C2D6600+, 2Gigs Ram and a 8800GTS your system will probably last til 2009 or 2010 as long as the Xbox360 doesn't get a successor.

Those games are nearing completion though. They can't really afford for them to be released later, they have to hit the shelves before christmas. And what's wrong with the word pwnIt's kinda how I feel when I'm pushing 60+ fps in Lost Planet or whatever other game

Valve didn't have to dumb down Half-Life 2 graphics for the sake of the consoles, nor did Far Cry suffer visually, despite it also being a console release. id Software didn't exactly slouch with Doom3, either.
I'm skeptical.

Haha, I was thinking that same thing, while reading this thread. I have two DX9 cards, and I game with both of them almost daily, and neither feels the least bit "dated" yet.
